shameless bump for this excellent thread that I hate to let die. Can we please sticky this one? It really helped me in an argument with some others over how much str boosts and I'm glad it's still here. Also sorta relates to what someone else asked about str/attack a few threads down.

There is also the fact that it's damage (both ways probably) is in a standard distribution curve. You can look test results up in various guide sites. Besides straight attack and defense, from various Q&A AGI vs DEX is a key in critical attacks landing. What we do know from critical is it is a sure hit, and will either multiply damage or ignore defense. This means a tanker, should consider his options when equiping. OR inversely a DD. This means that extremities are highly costly, and unless there is justification, should not recklessly pursue it. Having +52 in strength is nice, but tweaking equipment may produce +40str +20 dex or + 30 str, + 18 dex, + 10 attack, or any combinations a DD would want. What we do know from most ffxi tests are that S-E frowns upon "tweaking" ala RO style, and makes characters extreme specialists. (99 str, 1 vit etc) That doesn't mean you should have even straight evens, but pick and choose wisely. |

I haven't personally messed around with defender, But a friend of mine did at one time. I think we came to the conclusion that if it takes 50% of your attack away, it adds that to your defense. So if my attack is 300 and it goes down to 150, then I'd get 150 defense from defender. In this case you calculate the attack of the galkan paladin, so when he pops defender you can tell how much defense he is getting from defender. Sentinel is significantly less than defender. Can't play right now but Im pretty sure its about the equivilant of a P2-P3 spell (depends on level or base defense i suppose). So all in all, those galkan stats still seem really funk-ay to me. Oh, and Hi! Im new to ffxionline; favored jobs == MNK(53) and PLD(68). My forum reading is almost as intensive as my FFXI playing. (cept for now..havent played since april1st :/) -Lac | |
