CoP 4-2 O GOD WHY?

Dragon Fight Oryou FIGHT 0/7
I can't seem too kill this guy and hard too find ppl usual set up =
PLD <me>
BLU
BLM
BLM
RED
RNG

Can't seem too kill BLM's sleep silence it RED dispells stoneskill
I voke <no atttacks>
BLMs nuke with freeze and areo
It wakes up flies I use mistmelt and repeat
but no success anyone have a tip or 2

Get a SMN to astral flow at the end. We had 3/5 dead and i thought we were done because he had alot of hp left. Next think i know everyone is like....
OMG OMG WIN WIN..... im like yeah right..........
but we won. I tried the blm way and the same crap happend. I even kited that bastard for a few minutes with rdm, gravitating him and sleeping. this was after everyone wiped. Get atleast one smn to go.

RDM should be /WHM for Barstonra, I cannot emphasize this enough, those Earth attacks Ouryu does can one-shot some people and Stonga is never pleasant. RDM has to be on dispel, and is obviously your main healer, so PLD should flash, RDM tossing in Slow, Gravity and Paralyze. The BLMs should start up with light, steady nukes, no DoT magic at all, they should be ready to sleep Ouryu at any possible time. They should start out light because it will allow them to deal the finishing blow with Freeze later.

Melees should not be standing behind the NM, good way die doing that. BLU should have Stun magic and Cures set, not just ZOMGDamage spells. And RNG, much like the BLMs, should be a steady shooter, not a big nuker until the end.

Melee should have Icarus Wings and Hi Potions, buy a hi-potion tank of the AH and use it before the BCNM fight in uncapped portion of Monarch Linn. Mages should bring Ethers and Yagudo Drinks. Finally RERAISE ITEMS, I don't care if you have a White Mage, bring RR items. It helps save recovery time if there is a wipe. If people do not bring these things to a CoP mission, I send them home and will cancel a run if I have to.

Most importantly.

DO.
NOT.
PANIC.


Panicking and poor preparation are what loses this BCNM and most CoP BCNMs every time. It is an easy fight if you keep your head and stay calm. I've beaten this fight with Manaburn, Balanced PTs and some of the most whacked setups ever.

And I never once had a summoner. I've never seen a SMN in my CoPs beyond Promys.

When you get the NM to 50%, have the BLMs sleep it and duo freeze it for a sure win. If they get a freak resist, call the RNG to finish the job with Eagle Eye Shot.

Kite with gravity while Blm and Rng deal damage from a distance. Even when Ouryu is in the air you can kite him, and he'll deal seriously less damage when you have distance on him. I don't know why, but when I kited, his aerial attacks did about thirty to fifty damage each. When he was on the ground I hardly took any hits at all because his pathing gets mixed up in the middle of the arena.

Provoke and Flash as you run while the Blms and Rng deal damage from a distance. The Blu can throw a stun in when needed, and should be able to deal damage from a distance as well, though lesser. Sleep for skillchains and Freeze magic burst, then sleep again so you can Provoke and FLash your hate back.

I found this ridiculously easy, as long as you take plenty of Mistmelts. I ended up using...about 4-5 if I remember right, although possibly less. I held all of my parties, and was in charge of grounding him whenever he did fly.

Our setup was;
MNK
PLD
WHM
WHM
BLM
SAM

Very very random setup imo, but it worked very well. The only person that even 2hr'd was our PLD for hate before the BLM did Freeze. Like BBQ said, stay calm, keep him on the ground with mistmelts, and try again. You have a much more orthodox setup for this mission, and I think like Dak said, kiting and keeping hate, along with keeping Ouryu on the ground will take him out no problem. Just go ahead and try again, good luck. :D

Make sure your stunners know that they HAVE to be on top of Stonega casts. Even with Barstonra and Shellra up, if Ouryu causes enough damage he can ruin your group's day.

BBQ made the most important point for CoP - do not panic. My static had a smn, but we didn't need one. Hell we even managed with a drg, but we went the old fashioned skillchain/magic burst way. Rdm is extremely important, you want someone to dispel SS, plus they can sleep him. But remember if he is flying to use a mistmelt BEFORE sleeping.

I was the WHM and in charge of mistmelts, it was classic manaburn tactics. Ouryu did wake up early for the 3rd cast (which won the fight), but we managed anyway.

This is such a great example of why they invented puctuation marks! Thanks for making us realize the value of commas and periods.
