In actuality, though, the safest tactic I've heard of is to just use Summoners against him. He can't really hurt Garuda, so 3+ Summoners with MP recovery backup (COR, BRD or RDM) can toast him pretty handily

Would love to have SMN x3. Or SMN x2, for that matter. ._. Our LS just doesn't have that many, and certainly not at 12:30 a.m. EDT. heh.

(oh, and spread out a bit so you don't get nailed by a stray AoE Stonega II).

Actually, I wouldn't recommend spreading out if manaburn'ing with Freeze. Don't really want Ouryu to wander around, you see. We ate a bunch of Stonega II's, but it wasn't too bad since everyone had Barstone.

Ouryu's bite is truly worse than his breath (and Stonega II), at least that night.

Ifrit...give it another go with manaburn and do as you yourself suggested - replace one blm with a smn. That's the exact setup my party had and he was cream within 3 minutes.

PLD vokes and invinces, and grabs as much hate as possible without engaging, and carries all the mistmelts to keep Ouryu on the ground.
SMN's first Astral Flow
BLM sleeps
3xBLM cast Freeze
SMN's second Astral Flow
BLM sleeps
3xBLM cast Freeze

Then he'll be dead.

(It's possible that there was a BLM sleep before SMN's first Astral Flow too, I can't quite remember).

Well, the one possible SMN (who came as BLM) has shot down the idea for 2nd attempt at manaburn. >_> No more manaburn for us.

I tanked it 7 times on PLD, another 3 or 4 times won't make me cry (too much). =b
