just finished rank 1 mission how do i start rank2 missions in Windy

Talk to the same guy who gave you the missions for rank 1. If he doesn't offer them yet, then buy a stack or two of earth (or whatever is cheapest right now) crystals and trade them to the one who gives you Signet. That should boost your standings enough to start the rank 2 missions.

hrm, i was under the impression that by completing missions 1-1,1-2,1-3 you "automatically" got the 2 series started.

You're allowed to do them after that, but you usually have to max out your rank points in order to receive them. When you go to the menu and click the top two buttons (can't remember the names) it tells you your title at the top, then your current Home Point, rank, and a blue bar that may be a little full, nearly full, or all the way full. You have to have it all the way full to get all the missions for the next rank. I think I was kinda off on my last post. Iirc you can usually do the first mission or two right off, but usually they won't get you enough points or whatever you wanna call it to give you the last mission in rank. At that point you can either repeat past missions or trade crystals. I always chose the latter since its quick, cheap, and easy.

Nope, you start each new rank out with 0 Rank Points, which means you have to build them up a bit by either trading some crystals, or by repeating an old mission.

Anyway, you don't usually have to max out your rank points if its the first in that rank series. A single stack of crystals is usually enough to bring it up to about 25% which should be enough. If it is the last or there is only one mission for that rank (Magicite) then you probably have to fill it up.

There are also skipable and repeatable missions you can do over later for rank points.

Is there a way to know which misisons are repeatable? with the ones I've done they don't seem repeatable as they are very "story like" and why repeat the same story?

The only way to tell in-game if they're repeatable is if they show up in the list of available missions after you've already done them. FFXIclopedia's mission info will tell you which are repeatable.

With the repeatable ones, when you repeat it you don't do exactly the same thing.

As for which ones, you find out after you've done it and they offer 2 or more missions. if you want to know ahead of time you have to look it up. Of the top of my head Windurst missions 2-2 and 3-2 are skipable, with 2-2 being repeatable. You can go back and do 3-2 later, but only once. It's probably the same in the other nations.

At some ranks, you can't start the mission right away. You have to trade crystals to an aligned Signet guard to get the rank points necessary. This applies to most ranks except the Shadow Lord Crisis arc, Magicite to the Shadow Lord fight.
