Why don't we intercept the forces before besieged

We, as a server, suck at besieged; why don't we intercept the beastman forces before higher leveled besiegeds so we don't lose so often?

Most servers don't. It's not just you.

Because most people want their 'free' EXP would be my guess. =P

Well, simply put, people are lazy.

Also, if you engage them outside of Besiged, they're still just as hard to kill I believe AND you'll lose EXP if you get killed.

Yep, it's the xp thing what prevents players from setting up a defense line outside the city.

Plus Inside city walls is just about the best gathering point for a defense...

And you don't get EXP or IS if they turn around.

You were meant to fight them in the besieged event in Al Zahbi.

Actually they are much easier outside but you have to deal constant damage or they keep moving. They do give great isp/exp a kill. Best way to do this is have a group of 12 people and pick off a few mobs for bonus exp/isp then warp into the city for beseiged.

Re: Why don't we intercept the forces before besieged

Because it really does nothing but stall them, making the people who are waiting for them to arrive in Al Zahbi angry. Most just figure they're going to show up anyway, and they won't gain anything by wasting time and getting themselves killed trying to stave them off.

Why we don't have an army of black mages or something waiting to blow up the bejeezus out of them once they reach the gate (choke point much?) is beyond me :3

Re: Why don't we intercept the forces before besieged

I'm a have to agree with the lazy comment. It's not like you won't get IS or EXP for fighting the approaching forces(common misconception). People just don't think to do so because of difficulty and or lack of convenience.

And FFXI proves once again that it has the power to make people extremely dogmatic.

It's quite sad.

Re: Why don't we intercept the forces before besieged

it's always better to defend from inside a fortress than in a field. In besieged, we have an advantage, because it takes time for them to filter in.

What we SHOULD be wondering about is why the NPCs don't evacuate when the warning of troops advancing comes up, or why the beastmen don't go through the tunnels that lead into Whitegate.

For evacuation, I have no idea. If I was a civilian and I heard an army was kniching on the city's front gate, I would run for my life.

As for Whitegate, 2 reasons:

1) The Astral Candesence is in Al Zhabi.
2) The Beastmen want the Astral Candesence.

Re: Why don't we intercept the forces before besieged

yes, but wouldn't it be a HUGE advantage for the beastmen if they managed to destroy the runic teleporter, and shut down the ports? Think about it, If your enemy can't escape from you, and his allies can't help him, wouldn't you be able to put him out of business for a MUCH longer time than just kidnapping a few people?

Heck, not to mention it would be a quick jaunt from whitegate to the AC afterwards.
