Does it matter where you start?

I've pre-selected to start in San'Doria juss for visual sake heh but i'm wondering if it plays a bigger role other than the conquest points you earn. And ive gathered that to earn certain jobs you are required to do certain quests in certain towns. I am wanting to be an Elvaan Paladin so is there a particular place one would recomend i start?

Well if you start in the kingdom the race you choose is from, you get a ring which brings up stats.

Yea thats right you have no real adavantages besides the ring and you can always travel to another town by boat.
