help 1st windurst mission

so i go to the guard at the big tree, i talk to him/her/it and i get a cut scene w/ him saying mission every five seconds or so. i figure, this is the mission guy, right? i chose the positive sounding options, and everyone was happy.

then i go to the rhinostery and talk to some tarus there, like the mission guide on this site says, and then they talk to me about something weird - grilled rabbit and tortillas - and i'm just getting more and more confused.

so i party w/ a level 8 thief and we run down to inner horutoto and all of a sudden, we got raped by this beetle thing! but, as we were running around, i think we found what was supposed to be some kind of door of the magical gizmo, and it just said something to me in japanese that wasn't happy. so, what am i doing wrong? or was i just too weak?

i still can't get this to work, i talk to those 2 mithra's together at the liviathon gate, but no options are asked. nothing. please someone help me!!!

There are three mithras to the left of the gate. Talk to the one in the middle. Next, run to the Orastery and talk to the two Taru's on up on the stage. Now you can go to Inner Horutoto. You'll find a cracked wall that you can go through. Go through the wall and you'll get a cutscene. After the cutscene examine the four magical gizmo in the area. Run back to Windurst and talk to the Taru's on the stage again. Mission Complete!
