Help after registering with PlayOnline

I have a PS2 with an internal harddrive. I've already taken care of installing the browser and I've already followed the steps here to register with PlayOnline.

I acquired the I.D., password, email address and email password...I opted to save the I.D. & password when I was all done.

So, I'm ready for FFXI, the step-by-step here indicates placing the PlayOnline dvd in the PS2 and resetting, then follow the steps pictured to install the game...for some reason, when I do that, I am not getting to the steps pictured here.

After the "press any button" screen of the PlayOnline disc, I get a menu of 4 choices to register, add an IP, not sure what the 3rd one is, and the fourth choice is to quit, which powers off the PS2.

I'm not getting any prompt to set-up/install FFXI with the PlayOnline disc, just prompts to register again. what am I doing wrong? If I stick the FFXI disc in the PS2 and select the install option, I get a message with a prompt to click "ok". When I click "ok" the PS2 just powers off. what?? I'm confused...it's behaving as tho I didn't register, although, my IP name was saved when I registered.

Any suggestions, advice is all greatly appreciated. Thanks for your attention.

OK, simply put, what do you do after you've acquired the I.D. and password? I've saved the passwords, I've written everything down precisely as it was when I registered.

Problem is, POV will not prompt me to install the game, when I connect online, it prompts me to register over again. I don't understand.

OH MY GOD. Me too. My game was 5 days late, and now this. Yeah, after the final registration screen on the guide, I got one more, that seemed to prompt me to enter my POL ID and Pass. I did that, got one more confirmation screen, it shut off. But whenever I put in the POL CD, I just get that main menu, and re-registration problem as above. For the love of God, can someone please help us?

I figured it all out last night SailorDaravon. If you've successfully registered the POV and got all your information - I.D., password, email, etc., then here is what you do next.

Do not put the POV in the PS2 and reset as the instructions say to do here...restart the PS2 without a disc inside and you can access PlayOnline automatically thru the harddrive - you'll see what I mean...then, you will see the screen at which the instructions here say to start installing the FFXI game disc. The installation process takes about 40 minutes.

After that, you will connect with the playonline network, keep following the remaining directions and pictures in the guide at this website. There is a TON of contect to download as you connect and utilize the PlayOnline Network - which is another 2-hour process! :o

The process after that involves purchasing a creation ID and creating your character - which is loads of fun. It was 2:30 in the morning by the time I figured everything out and reached the character creation stage. I created a wonderful male Tarutaru named Habetape! :biggrin: I believe that's pronounced "hob-ay-top-ay". Again, I thought the character creation, changing the character's appearance was wonderful fun, staying fully animated the whole time! Yippee! Habetape is a Black Mage. I'm going to update my profile on the forum accordingly.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I accidentally hit re-install on POL like RIGHT before I saw this post. aRRRRRRGH. I cancelled out of it at 0%, but it seems like it's not there, so I'm going to re-install it now. I wrote down all my info. Any clue if there's going to be problems as far as using my CD Key again or anything?

I'm assuming you accidentally re-installed the PlayOnline Viewer? If so, then just re-install it. You will not need to worry about your key at all. When you originally registered, you actually registered online and not merely on the harddrive.

Just finish re-installing the POV, don't proceed with any registering procedures. Once the install is done, reset the PS2 without any discs and proceed with installing the FFXI disc.

You will come across steps where you will need to input your PloyOnline I.D. information.

Also, a quick note, PlayOnline will ask for a membership name and password, this is different than you're playonline I.D. When it asks for your Membership name and password, it's basically the same as setting up an AOL or Yahoo handle. Have fun!
