Well, it all depends on the brand of service you have. Check your network adapter manual for more details. I have Verizon DSL, and everything seems to connect fine, but i dont know how AOL DSL works, sorry.

sorry, i thought you were having problems connecting your network adapter. If your net adapter normally works on aol broadband, then this should be no different. (i dont' think). Keep us posted.

First of all, you need to stop freaking out. I don't think they would send you a beta if they knew it wouldn't work. Second, AOL is very widely used and they'd be stupid to not let it work.

Well there is a reason that it is called Ao-HELL!
First thing is first, How do you log into broadband, is it like AOL where you log into the AOL server service, or does it connect to the net and then let you log in.
What might make things easier for you is using a linksys router to hook the PS2 up. I used that and was able to connect with ease, you would not have to use any of the AOL crap as the system should keep you connected.
Also you might wat to try proxy options, or setting yor DNS and such manually. Just a few thoughts, until you explain the AOL Broadband service more efficiently

Whats happening when you try to connect via AOL BB? Isn't it accepting it? I think theres a bit where it asks for your connection. AOL BB will obviously be enet. Try e-maling SQ-E, your a beta tester, so they'll reply unlike that hideous automated response for the "nobodys" :o

Ultima the problem is AOL is seriously screwed up. Which is why to connect through the network adaptor you have to have very special settings unlike normal dialup. The regualr AOL service will not recognize a normal dial-in. If AOL broadband is the same way, there may be an updated CD which S-E may have to send out for him to conenct to playonline. Then again I am still unsure how he installed as it connects to the server mutliple times during the installation of not only FFXI, but PlayOnline as well.

Exactly...
Geez, why don't you try it first, if it doesn't work then post saying you have a problem. If your still installing how do you even know if it's not going to work?
Also, if you could play Everquest (I'm assuming you're talking about EQ for Ps2) then FFXI will most likely work fine.:dead:

First off Roll if you want help with your Connection there is some info you have to give. I would start with BB Modem and it's Brand, then if any Media devices are connected between the BB Modem and the PS2 (Such as a Hub, Bridge, Switch, Router, Amplifier, etc..).
Before you give that info I suggest what ever other device you have connected that works on the Broadband to examine it's network settings. See what Gateways, DNS servers, and WIN servers it's using, if you match them and it still doesn't work there is still a ton of stuff you can do. Unfortunatly helping you out will be hard without a well enough explination of your network and the problem that's occuring.
EDIT: Ah, noticed all on this thread seem to be offline. So I'll just explain more things to try.
Another this is if your Computer was connected directly to the cable modem, and you are trying to connect the PS2 to the DSL connection then most likely it's not going to work (Again, more explination of your network is required). Reason that this method won't work is that any method used that doesn't use a regular dail-up, usually the ISP will record your MAC Address in which case any other computer/network card used will be rejected by the ISP. You can actually get around this by using a router and have it "Clone the MAC Address" of the computer that was originally connected to the Modem.
The other reason it might not be working depends on if you actually have a router their. In that case it can be because of the router and it's brand, some routers are very big on security and because of it the way their Firewalls works can be a headache if you don't know much about networking. If the cause is from the router and a possible Firewall then if you want to keep your system secure then you'll need to find out (Ask S-E) what TCP and UDP ports are used to connect to POL, FFXI, and what ever other components exist. Then from their you'll either have to open that range of TCP and UDP ports so anything can come in and go out on all devices on that network, or if your router is able to do this have it do a "Port Forwarding" to the IP address that is designated for your PS2. Most likely if your router is anything else other then a LinkSys Router then it's extreemly set on security and you may have quite a headache getting it to work right.
The final thing I can think of and this is specific to AOL users. AOL has their own implemented Firewall, unlike many other ISPs that limit very few TCP and UDP ports AOL limits a great deal more (All in their attempt to make a safe and secure Internet for everyone, bad idea IMHO). This one you'll have to work with AOL and Square-Enix to see if the TCP and UDP ports that AOL allows don't conflict with the ones that Square-Enix are using (This is something you really can't blame Square-Enix on, it would be pretty tough to try and communicate and coordinate with every ISP on what ports they allow). If AOL does restrict the TCP and/or UDP ports that Square-Enix is trying to use, then you're probably better of seeing if Square-Enix can change the TCP and UDP ports then use (Last time I heard AOL would not open any TCP/UDP ports that they have restircted, may of changed by now).
There that should a few good ones to try, still a bunch more you can do but it depends on what exactly the problem is.

Hi!~
Well, I don't have AoL broad band but I do have Dsl from Telus (in Canada). I didn't know how to go online with my network adaptor either but after e-mailing the customer service to my internet provider they told me to follow the following steps..
1) Unplug the Ethernet cable from the PS2 NA (network adapter)
2) Run through the set-up procedure on the PS2 NA
If you have done so already, you will have to remove the configuration files
from the memory card before performing this step
3) When the network test fails, press the SELECT button
Here, it will display the MAC address and Sony's support number
Record the MAC address.
4) Go to http://oca on your PC. Log in with your userID and password. Choose
"Manual Registration and Administration"
Note: for you, you've to find out where you can do this manual registration.
5) Type in the MAC address in the format xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and click "Submit" on
the left-hand side
5) Shut down the PS2 now and restart the registration process
It worked for me... in my 1st try
Hope this helps a bit ~
Thx:handsdown:spin:

Yep, My_zanarkand that's the first one I said in my EDIT. That is a very common one you'll find with many connections that are not regular Dial-up. You actually registered that MAC address with your ISP so that they would accept it, which is actually the second method I forgot about to getting around that problem.
Either way using a router and Cloning the MAC so that anything that goes on the Internet the ISP only sees that MAC Address so it doesn't get restricted. Using what My_zanarkand and having the ISP register that MAC Address is the other way you can do it, though some ISPs see this second way as added work and don't do it. Instead they'll say you need to get a router and set it up, then if it doesn't have MAC Address Cloning then you'll have to contact the ISP again and have them reset your Account so it'll accept the new MAC then what ever device you hook to the router won't matter.
Thing you do need to know, some ISPs charge extra for each MAC Address that connects to the Internet threw that connection. Basically means if you have more then one device connecting threw their then they'll charge, you will have to get the specifics from the ISP on what they allow and don't.
EDIT: This reason here is one of many that made me decide not to use AOL. That's why I love my ISP they allow just about anything, well anything short of hacking if they catch you doing it.

I got no problems when i connect a hub or a router on my ps 2 Network Adaptor.Even though for the hub, they won't send the reg card for the ps2 network adaptor.Router is good though,I connected my ps 2,pc,and my Xbox on the router (from Microsoft brand). You can of course connect the ps 2 netowrk adaptor directly in your modem if there's another enthernet jack on your dsl or cable modem which is called the Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)

Yep again related to what My_zanarkand did, and what I was saying. You used a modem that has basically a Proxy built in to it, pretty much the same as getting two network cards and setting them up on one computer and using the Windows Internet Connection Sharing (Basically a proxy program, and with it the ISP still only sees one MAC Address)

Only certain dsl routers work with AOL Broadband.
From the Linksys website:
Currently the following routers support AOL Broadband:
•BEFSR41
•BEFSR11
•BEFSRU31
•BEFSR81
•BEFW11S4
•BEFW11S4 V2/V3
•HPRO200 (Available from AOL only at this time)
If you want to pick one up as cheap as possible, check out www.pricewatch.com and go to the Networking/Networking Other link and put one of the model numbers in there. Also, check with your local computer retail store. They may have one in stock if you can't wait on shipping and/or mail-in rebates. If you do this and need help setting it up, just PM me. I've had some experiance dealing with this issue.
