Did the ppl who play FFXI now have to learn Japanes?

I didnt know what subject to put this in so i put it in the MFAQ, since im thinking some one else might of wondered.

All these people who play now, im guessing you had to learn the Japanes language to play the game. But then if you did, why are the names on top of the peoples heads in english??

it'd be more fun if you know japanese. all commands, button, and so on in this game are all in japanese. you can guess and remember what they do, if you really want to play it

You dont really need to learn Japanese as some Japanese people learn English as a second language. If you talk really slow and have the patience to repeat yourself I think they'll understand.
Some people will speak better English than others so be patient.

no not true. most japanese don't know english. I talked to my japanese friends here at the college and he said he in japan, english are taught in high school for only 3 years. and they only learn the grammar.

I can't even understand when 90% of japanese students in my college try to speak english.

lol, well, guys over here (japan) try their best to learn japanese^^; my g/f now knows more english than most of her friends cos of me now, haha. Japanese understand english words .

Words for foriegn words in japanese are just the english, pronounced in japanese or maybe abbreviated so it's easier to pronounce (eg, you wouldn't hear english ppl calling a PC a PasoCon but jap for pc is Paasonaru Compyuutaaaaaaaa)


ANYWAY it'd be easier for u if u learnt jap, you'll understand what ur doing, u can read what npc's are doing, u can see what ur items actually do, and there are too many "translate this" posts in the forum^^;;

I went to a few sites listed on yahoo to kearn some of the language. Haven't gotten very far yet, just started. Just learning how to read it at the moment, then have to learn the romaji later so I can type in it. Who knows if I'll ever be able to speak it??;)
