Something smells fishy and it aint frans's sister (sorry had to do that). Having completed an advanced class in thought analysis and criminal psycology, I have learned many things about conspiracies, and this is prolly the best way to test out what I have learned. I am pretty sure that Squenix did not choose the beta testers randomly. If you want to be part of this test, just put your e-mail address and whether or not you got in. My e-mail is dillydill711@hotmail.com and I did not get in.

lol, sure ill be part of your test. My email is coreyrplante@cox.net and I got in. I have a theory too. I think they did a first come first thing kinda thing. The people i know well that got in signed up within the first few days of beta applications like i did. Im interested to see what you think though...

There's a slim chance that blocked it, but then there's a slim chance it was just not meant to be. I'm gonna do my FFXI site right now and hope for the best.

well, not many companies do choose beta testers randomly. they decide by hardware setup and things like that, for the most part. for example, they look for all sorts of people who have their PS2s set up on different types of network connections, and pc players with different types of computers and hardware.

i dunno if i'm right about that in relation to the FFXI beta test, but whatever.

My email address is adnaan_c@hotmail.com. Interesting idea, though. :p

I have a conspiracy theory, don t give out your email address in forums, especially to posters who have been on the board for 3 days. many bad things can happen

Don't take it personally Choco.

It's just that their have been people who made accounts on this board and then betrayed the trust of board members (ex. The Final Fantasy XI "Translator" that was a trojan).

There is no way to truly know what the intentions of one are. Even you may be acting right now like that guy who tried to spread his trojan one. Yet again don't take it personally.

Good luck with your investigation.

my guess is that they chose what setup you had. For the PC beta probably the type of connection, the internet company, and computer specs. The PS2 was proabably based on internet connection and the internet service provider. Also both were probably based on location in their given country.

1. my email blocks anyone that I havent verified

2. I cant believe yall believe that translator bullshit, theres no way someone can do that, and if they DID! The file would be about the size of the game itself and or wouldnt be FREE!

My email extension is also @sbcglobal.net but it appears I didn't get in. I also signed up the first day and have a very serious gaming rig, 1.5Mb DSL and have beta'd Shadowbane, AC2 and DAOC, and also played EQ in one of the top 5 guilds since late '99. /shrug Who knows what criteria they used to select people, I thought for sure my qualifications would allow me in but I guess not. :)

...Waiting for commercial release now :(

I got in, tff_shiva@hotmail.com for the ps2 version, and I didn't sign the first day, because i wasn't checking these forums and other ff-related sites for awhile so I didn't know, but my friend checked and found out 3 days after the sign up, so i was 3-days late and stil got picked, but my friend didn't get picked, and we live in the same city, same area code. But i have DSL and he has CABLE so.....don't know

oh yeah, and It was my birthday when they sent me an e-mail that i was accepted:sweat: May 22, so maybe it was a b-day gift that they picked me

Maybe Squenix is afraid of BoTS

I signed up for the Ps2 beta the day after the form went online and I was accepted to the beta. I doubt the email address has anything to do with being accepted, but probably more having to do with the isp and hardware you are using.

yeah my app looked just like that. ive never been rejected from a beta in my life.. have about 4 years of EQ behind my belt, the latter of those years spent in one of EQ's top guilds (by far the best on the server), ive got shadowbane, EVE, planetside, FWO, DAoC betas, and have a reliable cable connection. maybe i should have used my @attbi.com email address instead of my @mail.com (which i use for gaming)? well i signed up for pc beta, and according to www.square-enix-usa.com they're not finished sending the emails, so i guess there's still a chance.

Here's an excellent way to shoot this theory down....

My e-mail address ends in, get this....

@gmx.co.uk

I've got an e-mail provider based in germany and I got in....

DragonLord

They have yet to send me any kind of e-mail, I thought that if you were not accepted they would send you an e-mail saying so.

The e-mail I used ended in @planetubh.com.

It looks like it was completely random. I'm just wondering how many people who put everquest in their app were accepted.

TakeshiEiketsu
06-06-2003, 03:03 PM
by everquest you mean EQOA? I put that down as a beta, and didnt get in......I signed up for PS2

email has no equivalence to if you're accepted or not. Everyone knows, I hope, that you can get an email address station on a server that can exist just about anywere. Wereever the mail server resides mean nothing about were your residence is at.

One thing no one seems to take in account is even though your setup to the internet may be unique, but possibly the fact of having a lot of their FF games and indicating that on that form you had to fill out could of hurt you being picked.

My thinking on that is possibly they are looking for people who are going to do the beta test not to be the first to play, but quite possibly ones they feel will actually get the job done. In the same token of having little knowledge of their previous games, then having an unbelievable amount could help as well.

Maybe then they see you are familiar with the secrets and tricks that exist in their games and you can identify easier what is suppose to exist in their game and what isn't. Then again they may not want a fan of the previous ff games complaining to them in the beta of why it doesn't have an ending like their other games (For ones that don't understand MMORPG's, tried to explain to a cousin unfortunatly failed misserably at it).

Also from how the battle system seems to work I definatly see previous FF fans complaining that the battle system or leveling up is to hard. Lots of stuff that a FF fan with little knowledge of MMORPGs can cause big problems with Square-Enix getting usefull feedback from them. Ultimatly you can debate their decisions and if each person took the time to detail how they think Square-Enix went about their selections you'll come up with Hundreds and Hundreds of totally different results some may be similar but a key item to it will be different.

Also to add much of the discussion of what email address you have means nothing as well to this thread. The creator of the thread was looking for people wanting to take part in a test he was holding using what he learned in thought analysis and criminal psycology. The fact he put his email there I think was his intent that you send him a email saying you want to partake in his test.

As an ending note I honestly have not liked psycologist much, no matter what form it is. In the same token that I don't like Scientology as much. Sorry to say chrono, I don't mind if you want include me in your test. Think my email in on my account just look up their, have no care of who has it anyone try to send me a virus will eventually find a nice greeting in their email from me saying "Nice try!!"

P.S. Sorry for the long message, just something I love doing. Explain my idea to death, that way you can think about it and hopefully give some good feed back then maybe more sound ideas of how SE did their selects would be present.

06-06-2003, 05:23 PM
I dont think they care specifically how many ff games you have played, but it may affect the person reviewing it wanting to put you down on the actual list

he wants our email addresses if we got in... hmm, let me think, how about 'no' scott?

sounds like someone is planning a scam to me, so be on guard.

and my address ended in hotmail.com so I'm sure that had nothing to do with it. it depends on why you said you'd make a good beta tester and your prior beta testing experience.

I agree, people who complain about it OBVIOUSLY never touched a MMORPG, that tells u they only play console games, and 90% chance NOT ONLINE. Leveling in FFXI IS EASY!!! compared to any other MMO Ive tried its SIMPLE, I find no problem in it what so ever.

There are only two possible reasons you didn't get accepted.

You either did not get it in early enough, or they did not like your application.

Saying that you have beta'd more than 20 games probably annoyed them. They prob thought you were just lying to them about it.

There could be other things on an application that they don't like. Like your reason for wanting to beta test.
