Will a SMN/BRD work out? If not why? (BRD = Bard) I know, I know...SMN/WHM is the best combo, but I was just wondering if it'd work out.
Thanks

Well, Nadyxes already made a good point about that here:

Maybe he and others would like to add to this, though, 'cause I'm sure I've heard other opinions on the matter.

Bards shouldn't be subbed since the only way to get the full effect of a song is by being a real bard. Having it as support only allows you one song and you can't get the song boosts from specific instruments. Also, since supporting something reduces the job level to half of your main job you won't be able to use a lot of the good songs until your main job is high leveled. For example, you won't get to use Ballad (MP Regen song) until level 50.
The only decent song you can use will be Madrigal (accuracy up, level 11) so you can start using it at 22. The only problem is that singing requires time and so does summoning monsters, meaning you won't be able to manage your time very well between the two tasks, forcing you to perform poorly in both categories while in parties.
Of course, you can also summon your monster before the fights start, but you'll run out of MP quicker since subbing bard doesn't give you any MP at all. Or you can sing the songs before the battle starts, but that means the songs wear off faster and you still have to end up summoning the monsters after the song is over (the fight might be over before you can even call out your summon =P).
You should leave singing to the real bards since it's a full-time job.
