(NOTE: This applies to the CLOSED BETA ONLY. Don't get in a hitch and confuse this with the Open Beta.)
Well, went to check my mail today, and in it was a middle-sized manilla envelope from Square Enix USA Inc.
Inside the envelope was a return mailing slip from Square Enix for the Closed Beta Kit, as well as a short letter and packing list.
I will scan the letter later today and post it up on here, since it more or less means that the NDA is practically lifted; and besides, you guys already know what was included in the Closed Beta Kit anyway.
So what does this mean?
1. The Closed Beta is...well...closed.
2. Anyone who is in the Closed Beta will receive confirmation of their placement in the Open Beta test that they applied for upon return of the Closed Beta Kit, as stated in earlier emails from Square Enix.
3. The Open Beta is getting closer to starting up!
4. The nay-sayers who said I was being pretensious by saying that I was already in the Open Beta before acceptance letters were sent now have their proof.
To the other Closed Beta Testers: Well, here's where the fun finally begins!
Yep it's over. I sent my package in on Monday. So we do automatically get in Open Beta? Cool I wasn't sure because I hadn't heard anything in awhile from them. Do you know how many Closed Beta testers there are? I've only talked to two others besides you, and one told me there were only 40 total. o.O If that's true, we're very lucky.

Wow I wasn't even aware...
Since the NDA is lifted, can you guys post thoughts/opinions? (On the NA port, since gameplay opinions are pretty much moot) ;) And if so, please do!

yesyes, Reze, the Squenix USA Rep at E3 stated that only 40 people were chosen for closed beta. You two were quite lucky to be among those chosen few!
LOL, I can tell you everything now I could tell you during Beta... The closed beta was simply using the JP version of FFXI and playing. Closed Beta testers got the exact same thing importers use. I'm also an importer... so for quite some time I had two JPS2s and two FFXI accounts. I gave the beta account to my friend so he can play, and even after I shipped my PS2 back, he's still playing. I hope they leave that account open and forget about it... it's free. lol

Yea, in an earlier email they said that as soon as they receive the Closed Beta Kit and confirm its contents, they put us into the Open Beta.
I've only talked to one other on the board myself aside from you...went ahead and added my SEOD ID# to my sig, since it doesn't really matter if they're known now. It's kind of a cool little thing, ya know? Otherwise, I have no clue how many Closed Beta testers there were.
I'm kind of sad that we don't get anything for our work, but that's just the way it goes!

Square sent you a JP PS2? Wow, quite trusting ;)
Must have some ties with SquareEnix to get that gig eh? :spin:

Nope, just good Japanese skills. ;)
By the way my Closed Beta number is/was SEOD-0037.

I got the invite to join the closed beta but my Japanese skills weren't apparently up-to-par and they didn't let me in  I only know of 2 other people who even got the email notice for the closed beta.
Now I'm in the Ps2 Open one instead

well, from what I understand we will be getting the English/Japanese version in the open Beta test... they have updated it so that you can chose between languages, select some common phrases in both languages so that you can pt with people that don't necesarily speak your language... although without the kit yet its hard to say.

So, what does this portend?
1) Nothing really; just another step down the road towards Open Beta kits being sent out.
2) I like lists with numbers.
