All right - I did glance over the FAQs, and I still feel like I'm missing the obvious, because I haven't been able to find the answer to my answer anywhere. My Japanese is moderately competent, but it's not good enough to scan for the simple stupid answer I need, so please bear with my newbness. For the record, I live in Japan, about 45 minutes from Den-Den Town in Osaka, so in theory, whatever I need to play FFXI, I should be able to buy. Or so I thought yesterday, anyways.

Yesterday, I went out and purchased a copy of the two-in-one version of FFXI (Vision of Jiraat Expansion plus original). The guys at the Sofmaps I went to were babbling on and on to me that I needed to get the Playstation BB Unit. No, no store sells them, they said (or at the very least, no SOFMAP sells them), and that I'd have to hook up with one through one of the favored ISPs (Yahoo BB, So-Net, OCN, etc.) or wait patiently until June 12th when Sony will finally get off their butts and sell them.

This, of course, registered high on my 'this is rubbish" meter, since it's obvious that lots of folks have been able to import the game from Japan no problem and do not have one of those ISPs to get said BB unit from. However, they have on the back of the game "Playstation BB Unit - mandatory".

So, for Vision of Jiraat, what precisely do I need to play this puppy on the PSII?

I at present do have:

USB Keyboard
FFXI - Vision of Jiraat
Good ol' Asahi-Net plugging me along on ISDN (I'd get ADSL, but I'm 4km out of range. Sigh.)
PS2 - SCPH-30000

Thanks to anyone that can help.

You are missing 2 things(or 3)

1>. HDD
2>. Network adapter(comes with HDD, and is needed for BB user)
3>. Modem(only for 56k, if you have BB, you don't need this item.)

How do I go about getting them?

I'm not sure about this one, but I remember that my friend got the BB unit via subscribing to yahoo BB in Japan.

I got my HDD from importing store, so I don't know how they go around getting those HDD.

Try asking around, or try walking around in Akihabara.
