thanks for the info ping...but it pisses me off...with PS3 release only a year or less away from the PS2 release of FFXI....I mean come on....there is no reason in the world for a 8 month beta test...that is <pardon my french> fkin insane.

THe PS2 is at my other hosue though. WE dont havea computer there. IM at my other house with the PC Can i just hook the PS2 to the phone? Or do i have to hook it up to a computer?

It is recomended that you run your PS2 through a router or a HUB. Thats just from what I've seen and heard though.

u do not need to hook it through your computer, but u can...

Well papapia how you "hook" it up is totally up to you. If you do it using the phone it'll be a 56k connection, but you will need a phone number to use too if your ISP (Internet Service Provider) has phone numbers you can you to connect. Otherwise if you are connecting to the internet threw the use of cable, DSL, T1, T3, OC6, or OC12 with those they should be connecting threw an external modem specially designed to use that connection.

That external modem then is either going to a router (Recommended for security) or straight to your computer. If it's going straight to your computer then you'll need to get a router (Though a hub may work too, if ISP allows multiple IP assignments) and setup the router to connect your computer and the PS2 to that connection. If you do that then your speed will easily outdo the 56k you'll get from using the phone.

Of course what steps you may need to do with getting the PS2 on the network that connects to the POP (Point-Of-Presence) at your house will change depending on what your ISP allows. If you don't want to go threw the trouble to gain a faster connection, then just get the available numbers the ISP has to connect to the internet and use a phone connection.

CAUTION: Many of the stuff suggested here with certain ISP is an extra fee, unless you know how to clone a MAC address. If you know how to do that then if you are doing something illegal or not depends on the ISP's policies.

Well I must admit my speculation was wrong about the servers being separate...oh well I still have a plan

They mentioned the creation of new servers, not US only, but still new ones. I'll create my char on one of those new ones, fresh with no LV65 people...I dont want it spoiled, maybe after I've had my share I won't mind but now I do.

It's the same for Ragnarok Online, I was pissed off to see LV30 people kill my monsters when I was LV5, now I'm LV24 and I don't mind, I'd even party with them. I still try not to steal kills, and I think its agreed to not do it deliberately...on a side note I can't believe how many AFK people there are on it

Sorry for being off-topic in that last bit, just for the sake of comparison. (and I know RO is nowhere near FFXI's quality)

begin in June. A Beta Test kit including the Internal Hard Disk Drive (40GB)
(for PlayStation(R)2) will be mailed to the address you've provided in the

The HDD shipped for use in the public beta test for PlayOnline, FINAL
FANTASY XI and Tetra Master is only compatible for use with the PlayOnline,
FINAL FANTASY XI and Tetra Master beta test software. Use or attempted use

Upon conclusion of the Beta Test, Sony Computer Entertainment America
requires you to return the beta test HDD in the original beta kit box using

a new consumer HDD unit, free of charge.

how can you think that is real? There has been no official news by Square Enix at all. That "confirmation email" is so generic that someone could have just put in FFXI and Square Enix in there and made it look real.

it has been said many times before:

you get the original game plus the Vision of Giraat expansion (I am using my translation of the expansion name becuase the official one is wierd).

you can take screenshots with PS2 version (from what I've heard), but I don't think there is currently a way to transfer them to PC.

and last of all, did you stock up on sugar before writing that last message angelbear? cuz it looks like it. lol j/k

Screen shot for PS2= Select+R1+R2. This will save the screenshot. You can then e-mail it to yourself via the playonline mail program.
