View Full Version : Do you think they will add any more expansions?

Just thought I would throw this out there since all the similar threads are years old. I love what they have added and I am content with what there is. Do you guys think they will add any more expansions or do you think they will just expand upon what is already there and leave it at that?

The answer is always the same. As long as the game makes money, they will continue to develop for it.
Same as the answer that has always been in those threads.
If you honestly think FFXI is anywhere near dead, you need to do some serious learning on MMOs. FFXI is still fairly young, and has at least another 10 years of life in it, as long as SE doesn't do something stupid (like completely shut down FFXI instead of just leaving it running at a bare minimum)

They've stated something about exploring the East more so I would assume they are working on another expansion. The one thing I've come to know about this industry is don't believe what you hear even if its straight from the horse's mouth. All it takes is for a significant decrease in subscribers and any MMO can be shelved.

That's the reason I proposed this thread Grandmom. I, as well as many, have heard rumors etc. that have stated things that allude to the end of their attention towards FFXI.
Yes, it makes money, but that doesn't mean that SE won't leave it as it is and just sit and collect. There is more than enough content from the current expansions to keep people occupied for a long time so it is always a possibility that they could change their focus on FFXI to a maintenance standpoint.
As easy as it is possible to be left alone though I feel there is just as much room for expansion. Definitely a topic that is is interesting to see what people think.
If they stopped their attention to ffxi, the only positive thing would be maybe less bitching about job fixes since they wouldnt care >.>

I, as well as many, have heard rumors etc.
Really? From where? You mean from those other topics which you already admitted to being years old?
And why is there no "Yes, they will. Not stop making these topics." options in the poll?
I, as well as many, have heard rumors etc.
then stop fucking listening to them.

Not really. "Grinding to max out your character" isn't actually content.
Look at EverQuest-- they're still making expansions for it. UO too I believe.

Considering the developers have said in numerous interviews that they still have plans for more expansions, yes... I think there will be more expansions.

Whenever they have spoken about other games in development and the developers were asked questions about it. Don't assume that only the topics that are 4 years old are going to apply to today's rumormill about FFXI.
Plenty of times "rumors" and assumptions from vague responses from SE have resulted in being the truth, even if only in partiality.
And as far as listening to rumors... This isn't neccessarily about listening to them as opposed to questioning them and/or elaborating on the possibilities of said rumors.

Do you have any links to these statements to back up this assertion of yours?
Vague statements like "whenever they have spoken about other games in development" don't count.

Well I am trying to get to them, but it is hard being at work with all of their security. The most recent time I heard of the possibility of FFXI being left to it's devices was when the discussions for the new SE MMO came out.
I know even this is vague, but I don't want to quote anything that is only vague in my memory, since it was just from a quick read over of discussions.
Regardless, though, I don't see the reason to get so snappy about a discussion regarding the future possibilities of a game we love and hate.

Who hates it?
The only reason people are getting "snappy" is because you're claiming something untrue. You got your answer in the first couple of posts. SE is a business. FFXI makes money for them. When FFXI stops making money for them, they will stop making expansions.

FFXI still has the far east, the west/far west and the North and south (Mithra homeland) to explore, so no we are not done yet ;p
North is Gigas homeland
south is Mithra homeland
and the west was mention by a DRG merc (Dragoon homeland?)
Temagori

That's an idea... An expansion delving into the still secretive homeland of the Mithra.

I would love to see the homeland of the Mithra <3
As long as I'm having fun with the game i#ll play and pay... and hope they'll bring more ^^

Wasn't that destroyed in the Great War? (Forgive me if my story's a bit fucked up) But if it was, maybe we'd even get to see it in the Wings expansion, which would be pretty badass.

The Galka lived in/under Altepa.
Not only did they always have sand in their panties, but they were kicked out of their homes by giant ants, and then kind of enslaved by Humes. There's a lot of deep rooted hatred for the world passed on from generation to generation.
Also, am I still the only one who thinks the Galka named Dry Bone in Bastok Mines is hilarious?

No ... but you've inspired me (and I'm not even sure how) to make a galka mule and name it something like Unstable Princess.
Random mad-libbed names that often make no sense on Galkas ftw.

Well I went to my "sources" and searched them for what I remember reading about the possibility of FFXI ending and then consulted the individuals that I had spoken with on the subject.
Every link that I had and everything that they could produce came up with the same answers. Only things I have are rumors. So defeated I apologize, but from the strong conversations that I have had with the peeps regarding the rumors I had thought there was some factual base to them.
Most of the FFXI ending things I had seen in black and white had "FFXI needs to die" sentiments soon after the "rumor". :o Regardless of which, I still feel it is a subject worth discussing and is interesting to imagine what things will be added in future expansions.
Again, I apologize for taking things I thought to be more factual than rumor as just that. Now on to more fun discussions and less unfun commentary. ^^

no real need to discus this, because it wont happen for a very long time, look at other MMORPGs, Ultima Online started in 1997, and guess what, its still going strong.

An SE employee did allude to WoTG being the last expansion BEFORE it was released. Then, I believe, someone asked a SE panel straight out about it being the last and they gave one of those statements that didn't straight out say they were having another expansion but that they still have the far East to explore or some s**t. That's my point, don't ever take what you hear as fact even from the horse's mouth. They change their minds like they change their god damn underwear. "We are making FF42! and it will be beamed to your brain by Fall 2110 we promise!" "FF42 has been delayed for quality reasons. We want you to have the best experience possible!" "FF42 has been cancelled. There were a few issues with the beaming but replacement brains have been issued to our beta testers."
I have 3 words for you.........

Not quite. They said they treat every expansion as if it was the last one. This is so that the story based content (missions and some special quests) are written so that the story is self contained within the expansion instead of leaving some off for 'the next one.'

1/10, better luck next time.

SE will continue to pump out expansions until everyone decides to quit the game. But that won't happen considering how addicting XI can be. I'm pretty sure that they will cover the whole world of Vana'diel before closing FFXI down for good. I sure as hell hope they do since I want to explore Vana'diel in its fullest

I agree with the most definitely, but not that there isn't enough content already, I think there is plenty of content. They will most definitely be more expansions because FFXI will most definitely still be a popular game for at least a few more years.
