Increasing the draw distance?

Well, I play FFXI at a resolution of 1600x1050 with background textures at 2048x2048 and it runs fine, but I was wondering if I could enhance it even further by increasing the maximum draw distance (further than the default options they give you)?

I know there's a thread about it here somewhere, but it's a few years old and it didn't really mention anything.

Note: If there is no other way than to use some third party program, I won't even worry about it... Not really after using Windower or anything like that anymore (I only ever used it to ALT+TAB previously, and that has been solved!).

I know for sure there's a plugin that does it.

Can I ask though, does your system run smoothly even in situations with large amounts of people (Campaign, Dynamis, the AH etc) at that background resolution? If it does what are your system specs? I've been trying to run at that background res for the nice AA effect, but even though my computer is pretty good the speed goes to crap as soon as there's more than a few people on the screen.

Edit: in response to Jei, no there's no registry key that you can edit, it's all done internally. It's a third party plugin or nothing.

The background texture resolution of 2048x2048 seems to work fine for me when it comes to major cities (like Whitegate) and all other areas (such as Campaign, Sky, etc.). It lags a bit in Dynamis, but it's still playable -- I used to just set it back to a lower resolution when I knew I had Dynamis that day.

(BTW. I am mainly playing on a new character now, so I don't have to deal with end-game stuff for awhile)

My specifications are:
Windows XP SP2
Intel Core2Duo 2.4GHZ 4MB Cache
3GB DDR400 RAM
nVidia 7800GS

Anyway... so a plug-in can do this? I might look it up, but I doubt I'll use it... I was looking around on FFXIclopedia and they had a list of the registry files and what they do, didn't see anything about draw distance. T_T
