*If this is in the wrong section, please do not delete the topic, but simply move it to the proper board* Thank you very much ^^

It isn't an incredible "Omg! Real life" type problem, but, it terms of my video game entertainment, it means a lot lol.

Heres my situation:

I been playing Final Fantasy XI for over 5 years since it came out in Japan for the PS2, which was the original release console. I have 179 friends on my list across 5 server(I server hop a lot) and I have put a lot of real life time into this game. I am one of the best Puppetmasters on my server and I also have a couple other 75s. I put a lot of hard work into the game and I still really enjoy it.

I also just started playing World of Warcraft after. The last time I played WoW was years ago when the game first came out. I did like it then because it is a lot different than FFXI. I lost interest after awhile, but the game has progressed immensely since then. About 20-30 of my in real life friends play WoW and about 3 play FFXI. I started playing WoW again on my friends accounts and I really do enjoy the game a lot, just as much as FFXI.

Heres my problem:

I like WoW and FFXI exactly the same. One just as much as the other. Final Fantasy XI I have been playing for longer then most people, at least Americans (Imports for the win) and I really do end up quiting FFXI every 4-5 months for about a month and a half because of the lack of new things to do.(I have done almost everything)

World of Warcraft has progressed so much since I last played and I love the new experience. I am a newbie compared to FFXI and would need to put a lot of hard work on this MMORPG just like I did in FFXI. WoW does have an amazing PvP service and an amazing social population. The game really did catch my interest.

Without any biased opinions, I need some help.

Should I stay with FFXI and just continue playing with a lot of friends I have on their and continue to be a good PUP and proving that we are an amazing job ^_^

or

Stay true to the new experiences of WoW and join that MMORPG, hoping to create a name for myself there and experience great things like I did in Final Fantasy XI.

If you can, answer(vote) not biased to one side (FFXI fans voting for FFXI) and take into consideration both sides.

The main point is, I enjoy them both equally in different ways.

Thanks for the read everyone and thanks in advance for the help and votes.

Long time FFXI member,

~Guren

I am only taking the votes of those who posted why they voted the way they did into consideration. I already know a lot of votes will be biased.

Most FFXI vet I know that tried WoW, they all got bored with it after a while.

So this is my advice. Park your content ID for a while, go hardcore WoW so it has a chance to burn you out.

Then you can come back to FFXI without regrets later on.

Who knows, WoW might be the game for you and you'll move on. No hard feelings.

I personally play both FFXI and WoW. I found WoW to be very entertaining, but eventually I always end up going back to FFXI. I never have cancelled my FFXI subscription in 5 years but I have done several times for WoW.
WoW the first time was a great experience, but I could never entirely give up FFXI, as everything accomplished in FFXI felt 10 times as rewarding as whatever I've done in WoW...
So my suggestion is to not chose at all, just keep both in your mind, and continue like you have been doing, play the game which you feel like playing the most. When you get bored of WoW, cancel the subscription and return to FFXI, and vice versa.

My vote is both. I think you'll figure out on your own which one you enjoy spending time in more, which is something I certainly won't be able to predict.

Id say play both. I currently swap up WoW and FFXI when I get boerd of either. Its nice to take a break from them once and a while. What I usually do is go hard on FF for a while then when I am burned out and find myself staring at the scenery in WG not doing anything, I know it is time for WoW.

If both is not an option, than I'd say go play WoW for a while. FFXI will still be waiting for you if you decide to return, and you've already accomplished so much, that you won't be "behind the curve" or anything like that.

Park FFXI and play WoW. It obviously will have some advantages being you have so many rl friends there. While you are away from FFXI new stuff will come out, so if you do decide WoW isn't for you there will be new adventures waiting. FF sounds like it is winding down for ya so I would go for the unexplored and have fun.

go with whatever is your "New Experience" ..I came from WoW (2 years)and FF11 is new experience to me so I play it until i'm done or burn out...
just dont waste your time doing the same old shit despite the game..(its a trap)...thats ofc if you enjoy any :)

so I would say play both and start with wow since its new to you..and then go back and forth (by months) between ff11 and wow until you are bored of them both ..try something new and so on..

I didnt vote btw, where is "both"?

note: I'm an old fan of warcraft and FF series :)

I chose FFXI but I'm biased. I don't like WoW and I love FFXI.

But here's my real answer, why can't you just play both? I know you're thinking you'd have no social life if you played both but if moderate your time on both then why can't you play and enjoy both?

Color me confused but I don't get why WoW is so popular at all. I've read quite abit about how the game works and I'll look into it more but I'm not sure I want to play a game where you can(joking) gain 10 lvls in an hour.(it sure seems like my joke is close to reality...but then again I think it's more like 2-5 lvls in an hour)

Other reasons I don't get it include: Death has no real penility other than money(just farm you'll have it in no time), there are no really good storylines in the game(what I enjoy about FFXI), from what I hear the community is unfriendly + childish[won't help you] and full-on PvP in any MMO has always hurt newbies.[psst...hey let's pick on newbies! they are great cannon fodder! Take three steps out of town and they're dead!]

Plus after that semi-easy grind to 70 and killing things for endgame armor you're only left with PvP and a few raids that are about 10 times easier than Dynamis!

Now mind you this is just stuff I read and got from players and players who quit. I have not played the game and I'm not really intrested in the Warcraft universe. I'm only intrested in the phonema...not getting the game...

one last thing: When FFXI bores me I play offline games. A couple of weeks ago FFXI got my goat and I spent the rest of the day beating Rachet and Clank Future ^^

Not true. And WoW has different servers, not just PvP servers. There is PVE, RP, and RPPVP. PVE and RP is different, you have the option to turn on PVP mode on. But with PVP/RPPVP servers, if you go to an enemy zone or contestest zone you will be automatically be PVP flagged.

I also play FFXI and WoW. Came back to FFXI, but disappeared for WoW again. Do whatever feels right for you.

The PvP in WoW is basically fully optional. You can choose how much of it you'd like to take part in. Have no interest at all? Play on a PvE or RP server. Want to opt in from time to time? Do the same, but participate in battlegrounds, or world PvP by putting up your PvP flag. Want to have full-time PvP? Join a PvP or RPPvP server.

Obviously the results here are going to be skewed. As the OP said, results without a reason posted won't be considered, but reading OPs is obviously not the cool thing to do these days. :p

There is nothing wrong with playing (and enjoying!) other MMOs while still liking FFXI. Its feelings won't be hurt if you play something else. So many people in the MMO community seem to feel this need to justify the time they spend on their current MMO, to the point where they have to bash and downplay the positives of other games. I have no idea why.

Putting down others tends to make one feel good, and so it becomes easier to live with the faults and troubles one has?

Maybe?

Like everyone basicly says, for quick and pretty easy fun time, I play WoW, for challenging and decent excitment I go with FFXI.

Unless you're in a tight spot, money-wise, I say keep them both. You can have fun with both at times. There was a time when I was having more fun playing NES games on an emulator than FFXI, but I didn't cancel FFXI, I just played it when I felt like it.

There's no one "right" answer here. Just play what you feel like playing. And don't let in-game events tie you to FFXI or WoW. I got so sick of the people I ran dynamis with that I started to dread going, and eventually I just left the shell because it stopped being fun. Best decision I made, and now I enjoy FFXI again.

Ive played eve for two years and finally taking a break just to play this game. ive been through all four Guildwars and still got bored with those. Im playing FFXI cause I have internet friends playing it. Just play what you have fun playing. If you have fun playing WoW then do it. You will only be mad at yourself if you are not having fun. And No im not cancelling all 4 of my eve accounts cause I love eve and spaceships..kekeke!!

Just voted, even though I see a decision was already made, I shall explain my own opinion anyway.

I understand entirely where you are coming from, I am actually an ex-WoW veteran (F&F Alpha participant for both Vanilla WoW and TBC, as well as CB participant for both titles) and have played since release.

My situation is the opposite of yours though, I have played WoW for a very long time and seen pretty much everything the game will ever have to offer me, I have raided with top end guilds and pvp'ed through all content ever offered since launch.

Recently I decided to call it quits, and FFXI was calling me to give it another go, so I have decided to stick with FFXI over the next year and see how it goes, as I am a bigger FF fan than a WC fan.

Glad to see your enjoying WoW though, it is indeed a great title.

It might be a little useless of me to post this and also a bit late. However, I do think it's quite hard to reply to that poll by reading your first post. You didn't say that much about your preferences, it's kind of like you're asking what game we personally like more. Or is that what you wanted to do anyway?

Put FFXI on hold for a while (don't delete your characters) and mess around with WoW for a while. Then come back to FFXI after some updates (maybe the next expansion o. O or at least when WotG is fully implemented) so that when you get back there will be a wave of new stuff for you :)

I still have a file with my quotes from my last signature in them. I'm definitely adding this to them.

The problem is, it will inevitably be too big when I put that back on here . . . I wonder if there's some way I can rotate through quotes made on here . . .
