View Full Version : The issues with FFXI that we don't often discuss

Only way to do that would be to pull PS2 support altogether.
Is that really a viable option for Square-Enix to do? If they pull support from the PlayStation 2 client, will they not lose quite a few subscribers? It would be wonderful to say that everyone could afford to go out and buy a PlayStation 3, but you cannot really expect that. It is going to become quite the dilemma, because eventually I can see the PS2 being unable to support Final Fantasy XI. Perhaps they could introduce a new hard drive or some way to update you PS2, but even then you are looking at money a lot of people cannot or are not willing to spend.

The PvP complaint is a common one from an outsiders view - its not really up for discussion because (1) its not an "issue", its clear by now SE wants a different kind of PvP and each new kind they develop proves that and (2) a lack of a mainstream form PvP, like griping the state of RDM or SMN, is commonly complained about.
First, I still play this game and I want an additional form of PVP (not an outsider opinion).
Secondly, Anything anyone has said in this forum is not up for discussion then. If SE wanted it how we want to see it then It would be like that. So as you would put it deal with it.
What new form of PVP their hasnt been an update to it since brenner, that was so long ago I don't even remember it happening. People don't even participate in the game anymore. I went and did some brenner last night, know what I did. Sat on the beach beating the crap out of people. Not one of use did the game.
Lastly, now its ok for RDM's and SMN's to complain about things? I thought this was a thread about Issues we don't often discuss. Not RDM complains about melee, and SMN whines because he can't keep an avatar out.
. more jiberish
Seriously bud make a new thread and title it. "BBQ explains why you are wrong and I am right". Every single time someone has a thought to add you refute with that wont work, it's not how they want it. This whole thread is useless on that assumption you make. They have the game how they want it. Once again BBQ you show how much of an attention seeking troll you are. (hell Im begining to think your worse then me, at least I only spout off in the RDM forums and disagree with everyone.) Its a discussion and you seem to think only your side holds water. Since it is based on opinions on the issues we rarely talk about, they all hold water.(even your snide comments every 3 posts.) so BBQ deal with it.
Anyhow back to the topic, In PVP last night I realized 2 things. 1. They seriously need a reward system, even if it was trophies to put in your MH. I went 6-0 last night and survived an onslaught of NIN,PLD,WHM. (I <3 Aspir). I should get a trophy called last man standing or something. Cuz seriously I owned PVP and all I got was 30K (40K but 10 was mine). Secondly they need to make a bland area, even if it was just a section of desert, fighting peole who have so far to run away is lame, not to mention sometimes the draw you into those stupid detector things. A square arena about the 4 mog houses in a square would be perfect.
In addition to that they need a spectator area where people can bet on the winner, an npc where the duelists can bet on the winner, and a set of trophies or something.
It would let people make some gil, and would also take gil out of the system.
Oh hai this is ffxio where people argue about things not happening in game. Please check reality at the door.

not possible TM as long as BBQ thinks that everyone else is wrong about what they think the issues are this thread will never stay on track.

Alas, MrMageo is *gasp!* actually partially right for once -- some of the problem does seem to be omg being so judgemental. It might be difficult to make this discussion stable as long as he feels that this is his thread and should only include stuff he likes. -- Pteryx

This happens on every thread tho, "blah blah blah My thread so my ideas!!!!" You all just have to understand no matter what I am right!
Feba said that first.
He has said alot of things tho =p

Can't argue with that: I mean, you have a prairie dog as an avatar, for crying out loud.

Feba said that first.
Ironically, Feba does that in all of his own threads.
Again (as he would say) had people read the topic and followed it, I wouldn't have objected to some of these so-called "issues." YM objected to the notion he couldn't complain about RDM right away, but then, how often do we get RDMS bitching?
Just about every update, without fail.
Same goes for SMN. Hell, people here who DON'T play SMN do more complaining that those that actually do. Again, this comes after every update. And not other jobs in the game seem to complain quite like those to, one more annoyinging because it has it better than most of the jobs in the game.
So I wanted to avoid those topics.
Lack of mainstream PvP from the outsider's view - not on topic. Its nothing to do with the lesser-noticed issues in game. I don't care that Feba doesn't play anymore and that it might draw him back. I don't care that its something MrMageo wants. If SE wanted that sort of PvP in FFXI, it would have been the first kind of PvP they added, simple as that.
They are clearly going for a different angle. And really, rather that suggest the "Give us the option to beat each other like retards" option, why don't we suggest SE fix whats already broken about our PvP instead? Its hideously unbalanced in uncapped play, I don't want duel-style PvP until SE fixes what is broken about PvP.
The communication issue is more valid, but the solution brought up here is one-dimensional, a superficial adjustment. Just adding JP text to the NA client won't change anything for people that don't know japanese, a bigger overhaul of the translator system should actually be considered as well, there are just at ton of phrases missing from the system that I need to have to communicate with parties.
Ya want insight on that stuff? There ya go. This isn't a wishlist topic, go make one if you want that. This is a topic about whats already there and what's amiss that isn't commonly discussed.
I cannot make it any clearer that that.
I wish for website peace, (tho we know it will never happen)

Did anyone else notice that Dave's sounding like a broken record? It's almost as if we can't have issues unless they're Dave approved.
And yes Sevv, we're on page 18. Time flies when we're arguing like a married couple.

Here's a little discussed issue (at least for me):
My character can cast a mystical, magical spell to deal X amount of damage points to little critters and collect their goods without even being near them, but he can't climb that 3ft wall that stands between him and running all the way back through Toraimarai Canal. Or how about that tiny little stump on the ground that my 400lb running bird with feet bigger than my head can't seem to manage stepping onto/over?
In my perfect dreamworld where FFXI was actually a game made for next-gen systems (PS3, Xbox360, Wii, PC), the terrain would be vastly different in terms of how characters can traverse them. Wouldn't it be neat if instead of running around that collection of boulders in Meriphataud Mountains, you could climb upon them and pass over them? Or maybe even something as subtle as being able to jump or hop over a little fence in the grass out in Rolanberry Fields?
Wishful thinking I know, but a nerd MMO gamer like myself can dream, can't he?

As BBQ would say, it doesn't matter what you want or think is an issue. SE thinks it is right and it is how they want it so deal with it. Why should they change something just because you think they should. Obviously they are trying to go a different route from logical explanations its a fantasy game jeez. Your as bad as the RDM and SMN's Waah waah waah.
Ok seriousily now...
Ya I noticed that to the terrain is kinda awkward at times. Although in past FF games you werent able to climb up little walls and such.
Also BBQ what do you want to discuss since everything that has been brought to light is wrong because it is the way SE wants it. If you know so much about how SE wants things, tell me what is the real issue in the game and what is the real problem you that you want to discuss since the other 15-20 of us arent allowed to talk about what we want.

Little things that aren't discussed much:
Expanding on terrain, irritates me to no end when you in an earthen tunnel (particularly assaults) and you're unable to quite get your leg over that quarter inch lip in the rock. I understand to an extent not being able to jump a 2ft fence, they want you to go around. But there are assaults where you spend 30 seconds trying to get around an unseen bump that for some reason a 6 foot tall hume can't quite walk over.
