Hey! I'm also an Australian. =P

I, personally, have the US version. But either can work for Australians, a friend of mine has the EU one. US is easy to get though.

You can try a site called x-rates.com for the Aussie prices. $12.95 USD and now about $14 AUD.

woot! this game needs more of us Australians XD

also, more Elvaan.. yes plz..

US$ and AU$ are not too different nowadays. its about an extra $1 per extra character you make too (like if u run out of space to store stuff, u can just buy a extra character to store gear on... i have 5 'mules' >.>) totally worth the cost though^^

version is not important, but u have to have the same expansion as ur original discs, i think *someone can confirm this for me ?* and they sell the EU expansions in australia, i also have the EU version of the original game.

hope this helps~

welcome to Vana'diel!

Your expansions must all be for the same region as your POL account. It doesn't matter when buying the collection, obviously, but it will when another expansion comes out.

I am also an aussie on the valefor server :) i pay about $16 AU with an extra character.

Once you have registered you character and installed and ready to go, you can actually log into game with either EU or US versions, you just cant change/edit membership settings at all, comes up with incorrect POL details.

Another Aussie here. I can't comment on the EU version since I imported the US version when it was first released. Also I'm curious as to whether there are any AU linkshells or anything like that around. I speak Japanese so 99% of my playtime is spent with Japanese people since we share the same timezone, but do Aussies set up their own communities in FFXI? Or just throw in with the American scum and play at strange times?

Anyone knows what's the cheapest way to get the US version here in Aussie?
I'm actually a returning player. But I lost my POL ID and I can't get it back cas I can't remember what details I put in when I registered it... (silly me).

Seems to me only Game Spot ships the game to countries outside the US. Costs $32 USD to ship it here though. Total cost is roughly $62 USD, which is about $67 AUD at the moment. Not too sure if I'll get charged extras for duties or taxes or whatever...

I ordered mine from dvdboxoffice.com - they're actually based in Canada but I've never had any problems with them. I got my original copy and all the expansions from there.

..It's Australian. The collections and games are on there.
Much cheaper AND it's in Sydney.

I beg your pardon? We are not scum, well most of us anyway. But anyway like others have stated before. It should not really matter unless you decide to edit your POL information. I remember when I had my first character 5 years ago, I bought the Japanese version. (I bought it from a friend so it didn't cost as much.) I made a new account on POL, and set up everything. Then I had to change information because the credit card was going to expire. So I quit untill a week ago, when I got the Vana'diel collection 07. I know, I should of waited for Vana'diel collection 08 to come out but I was to impatient to wait lol.

Hi people ( U.S. and Aussie ). We are a couple who enjoyed playing the game and yes we have met our fair share of scums. I think in terms of ratios there are much more Americans playing as compared to Australians and thus its too general to categorise scums as Americans as we do meet quite a lot of extremely nice and helpful Americans too. Anyhow, yes we have problems with time differences as us aussies mainly play with Japanese, Asians and Europeans. It is hard for us since most Japanese rather play among themselves (esp. partying) which might be due to language barriers. As for Aussie LS we have never came across any of it. We are playing on 2 servers atm and have never come across any of it. Would be nice though although I think its really difficult as we are a minority in the game. LOL but enjoy the game and who knows we might meet up soon ( Phoenix and Gilgamesh servers ).

Buy Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2008 (DVD-ROM) (PC CD-ROM) - Order Now! (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-xm-49-en-70-2o3q.html)

Another good site to buy the '08 Collection from.

I haven't got the game yet, still tossing up if I will.

When people say you have to play at crazy times, what times are we talking here?
Like 2am or something.

I just wanna know something too.

I've ordered the US version, from Australia, when you said, as long as you don't try and change the pol version, what did you mean? Can you still be ok in the registering part (ie put in you're from AUS), if you're in australia? :S *is worried*

I used to have EU version, but like others, I can't remember my ID and all that stuff :S

EDIT: Please tell me the US version can connect fine? I'm panicing now :s I hope I didnt waste my money on the game, that I can't connect to :S /cry

The only thing that matters is that when you buy expansions, you have to buy them for the region of your original account. You can buy any version you want and play it from anywhere you can get a connection. If you buy the US version, you have to continue buying the US version of expansions. That's all.
