There are several guides on the forum and multiple videos on sites such as youtube. I made a little video from my current party using the SaTa with another party member as first Provoke user tactic.

Thanks! You'd be surprised how many higher level thiefs STILL don't know how to do this. x.x

Yea this party's strategy worked out perfect, just as can be expected from a level 60-62 party. ^^ I found it quite noticeable.

To be fair, once a Thief gets the Assassin trait, then Trick Attack alone would do the job perfectly fine. I don't think you even have to be behind the mob in that case.

But, still, a good demonstration, nonetheless. A "Trick" that every Thief should remember.

I motion for that video to be put in the FFXIclopedia page for SATA (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/SATA).

Yeah, with the exception of closing a skillchain (in which case you'd want to increase your WS damage as much as possible to increase skillchain damage,) you lose damage doing SATA compared to separating SA and TA after Assassin. Not to mention separating them gives the THF more flexibility.

But I digress. Useful video. Thanks for recording and sharing.

While the video shows true proper positioning for TA, since most people who don't know how to do it anyway won't bother to look at this thread, your information will most likely be for naught. Nice though.

Also eliminates the need for a 1st provoke.

Nope, you don't need to be the behind the mob for Trick Attack to work. ^^ However, why use Sneak Attack sepperately if it's working great with Sneak Attack at start of battle? Also, the warrior did good damage and so did the Scholar who was in the party, I sometimes forgot to provoke after SaTa and still kept hate the entire battle. The main reason why both were used, is because before the minute recast timers on both Sneak Attack and Trick Attack were over, the monster was death... and this strategy worked great without mistake during a 2 hour party. It is nice to have a party that just works great. :)

However, why use Sneak Attack sepperately if it's working great with Sneak Attack at start of battle?Because the THF will do more damage separating them, and "waste" less damage since he doesn't have to wait for anyone to do anything, he/she just pops the abilities whenever they're ready.

I'm not saying SATA isn't good, just that doing SA/TA separately after Assassin is better. Even using them separately for WS is better if the THF isn't closing a skillchain.

Hmm, I see your point x.x However as I said, it still worked out great this way. The experience gain was great, for the rest I didn't really care. :P What I was more surprised about is the stable overall party performance for 2 hours straight. Too bad it didn't last longer.

And besides, they were all Japanese, wasn't much communication. ^^;
Also, I'm on the same camp place as i'm typing this message, in a different party. With Cerealkiller actually (the guy in Akysannyi's signature ;)). This party (Not because of Cerealkiller by the way :P) is going a lot worse. Monster moves around a lot, Trick Attack fails, I lose hate.. that kind of things.

Splitting SA and TA after assassin also tends to encourage THFs to pull a bit faster. I remember parties taking pulls slower than we needed to simply because the THF was waiting on SATA timers.

Well, it isn't required that THF Split SATA when they get Assassin, it just increases their DoT. Combined SATA increases hate control, so you have to make the choice on a party by party situation. If your level 62 tank is bumming Shi-hei off the WAR and wearing RSE, then you probably want to go for the full SATA just to ensure that he is the first to die.
