Ok well tomorrow after i take my SAT's Im going out to (buy the stuff to)hook my 360 up to Wireless internet(finaly after months of waiting)at home.

First off anyone know if Dynex or LinkSys is a better brand of wireless router?
Was checking stores out online and i think ive pretty much decided on either the DynexR Enhanced Wireless Networking Adaptor or the LinkSys WRT546 Wireless G Router. Anyone have one of these or know someone and can tell me some pros/cons if any on these two brands and/or Routers? Or any complications in the set up process?

Then for when its finaly connected:
My dad insists(fore i was not there) that when he first put in FFXI, at his house, he was not able to choose servers and it did so automaticaly. However, from what i have come to understand you choose your own. I have never just come out and asked this so i shall now. Do you choose or is it random?

I prefer linksys, but thats only because people who know more than me about such things tell me to use linksys, and, well...i'm a sheep

you now choose which server you want to be on, that was changed a while back

Ahh ok cool. Thank you very much.

LinkSys you say? I think thats fine be me. Its only 5 dollars more than the Dynex one that i looked at. One of my friends however has informed me that when installing his linksys that it was very(/to) secure and therefore hard to connect with his 360? He then had to call his ISP and had someone come to install it for him. Have you heard of this problem Caspian? Id rather not have to pay more to have someone install it.

I had terrible luck with Linksys equipment; I only recommend them to my worst enemies now. (Fared quite a bit better with Netgear and a generic brand whose name escape me at the moment.) That said, everything is assembled in China using commodities parts sourced from random region of the world anyway, so the biggest differences between generic brands and "named" brands like Linksys is probably the more attractive case for the latter.

Whatever you buy, make sure the store has a decent return policy--"can't get it to work" should be good enough of a reason to get your money back, or at least store credit.

Honestly, there aren't any real differences between the consumer level devices.

Personally, I'd just make sure I can run DD-WRT on it, but that's probably more work and stuff than you need. Like Linksys, though.

I know very little about networking, my brother's very good at it, though.

Everyone always told us Linksys and whatnot but we've now had bad luck with 2 different LinkSys's'sss and neither of our flippin' cheap Belkin routers have given us issues. Everyone says Belkin is a POS but we've yet to have issue.

I guess the point is... /point Mhurron.

lol i knew someone would refrence that movie ^^ i love it.

Anyways...i got the Linksys.
guess what im doing right now?
using my(moms) finaly internet ready laptop.
I also got my Xbox live account and POL stuff. Im watching as FFXI updates.
Currently 53 minutes remaining. Im so happy.

Now i did have lots of trouble with connecting with the router......at first. But was able to solve my problems(while on hold with Linksys support lol) and since then this laptop, my 360, and the home computer have all been running at the same time seemlessly. It makes me think i can succeed(but thatll be gone soon).
