Alright so I am going to buy the game for 360 soon. The class that interests me the most in FFXI are.

Ninja and Thief now lets talk about

Thief what are they good for?

Is the stealing ability helpful?

Should I level up daggers the most?

Difficulty leveling up?

the thief was prety easy leveling up. dont take on anything too tuff though and youll be fine. as far as daggers vs. swords: personally i leveled swords till i was level 30 then switched to daggers. duing those 30 levels though i did train daggers so i wouldnt be far behind.

the thief is a fun class to play especially when you get sneak attack, at lvl 15, then you start havin a little bit of fun. when you get trick attack at 30 though, thats when you start having some of the best fun of the class.

as far as ninja goes, i havent even ulocked it yet but i o know it is a prety expensive class to play.

Holy crap, you need to make your signature smaller. <.>

I would suggest reading many of the beginners guides before posting an elementary question such as this.

Thief what are they good for?
Hate Control, Spike Damage, Coffer/Chest picking, Item Drops, NIN Tanks

Is the stealing ability helpful?
To a degree, yes. More helpful as you get higher in level and can Steal from higher level mobs. At any level though, a free item is a free item.

Should I level up daggers the most?
Short version - yes. Long version - use Sword or Hand to Hand until 30-33, but keep you Dagger Skill close to capped, so you can use the Viper Bite Weaponskill shortly after hitting 33.

Difficulty leveling up?
Meh, you might have to solo to 15, but 15-45ish you should not have a problem. The slowdown in PT invites started for me around late 40s, and will really slow down 60+ because other DD can then use SATA, though not as well as THF.

As Mog said, also - read Guides, they will answer a lot of these questions for you, without having to wait for an answer from a Forum community.

How to succeed in FFXI:

1- Find a website or forum post that has links to lots of guides
2- Read all guides of interest, and a few that aren't
3- Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you run out of pages
4- Bookmark information sites, read them when you're bored.

I think I might just get the game extra early. I just learned about the Vista POL. Downloaded that so now over night I will let it install the rest. When I wake up continue download after school click finish. Buy subscription start playing. I honestly prefer playing on PC for many reasons its on a desk nice seat can place things close to me easy to read text.

Anyone wanna recommend me a server? Like anyone willing to help me out in game?

When you get to 30, its actually better to unlock as many jobs as you can and give them all a run. Sometimes you'll find you'll end up levellings something you didn't intend to starting out.

I started out having my heart set on DRG and RDM and ended up being a Ranger, Corsair and a Beastmaster and, in truth, the jobs I ended up as suit my personality a lot better than the jobs I intended to play.

There's really no rush on deciding your job at this point, just work on getting to 30 and then check out all the other jobs the game offers you.

i agree 100% with kitten. i started out wanting to be either a DRG or NIN. both frontline fghters that each dish out good damage. i ended up playing a BRD, and to be honest, it suits my play style perfectly. its kinda wierd how it works out. just play around with all the jobs FFXI has to offer. when you find one go with it. thats what i did.

It's a long way off but when you reach 75 and merit Aura Steal, Steal becomes one of the coolest abilities thf gets. It lets you dispel monster buffs with Steal, but sometimes you steal the buff, and they are all ridiculous. (999 attacks, double defense, 3 hour shock spikes, etc) I may get rid of Assassin's Charge (which is really just an Epeen shot) to get Aura Steal to level 3 just for the better absorb rate; it's that tight.

Thanks for tips I still think I will be a Thief since its just my style to be quick and steal. I am also interested in being corsair but who knows I might change my mind.
