I'm thinking about comming back to FFXI because it's one of my favorite games ever. The problem about comming back is picking which job to level. The highest job I got up was war to level 38 but thats it. I just can't pick which job to level and stay with. It just seems a waste of gil (which I need badly) to find the job I love the most. On WoW I play a shadow priest and love that character to death. I have almost every job unlocked except dnc, cor, sch, pld, and sam. I love to do anything really in a game (I enjoy healing quite a bit) but I really want to do BIG damage in FFXI. Any suggestions?

Well, you don't really get to do both. You could take a look at some of the unlockable jobs.
Come back, get a job 30, and unlock Blue Mage (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Blue_Mage), Dancer (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Dancer), and Paladin (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Paladin).
All three jobs use magic to heal others and/or themselves. Blue Mage, at first blush, would best fit your desire to wreck things.
If your primary interest is in raw damage, then Samurai, Warrior, or Black Mage are good choices, depending on your preference for physical or magical oriented jobs.

This is actually why I love FFXI it makes you think about combinations you can do and makes you put effort into what class you will pick.

Try leveling Dark Knight. You get to cast spells...its not healing but it is spell casting! Dark Knights can be excellent damage dealers, so it takes care of 1 1/2 of your requirements. LOL
My son took forever and a day before he finally settled down and took one job to 75. He's really enjoyed playing and having variety. Remember its not about the destination, its how much fun you have getting there. So if your fun is to level every job to level 37 before committing yourself to taking one to 75....so what! Do it! Just have fun!

It really shouldn't cost that much gil to experiment with jobs in the long run. You've got spells, food, and ammo, plus incidental fees (OP warps, chocobos, AH fees, etc.). All your gear you should at least break even on, if not make a profit. Carve out a little play time just for money-making (a little each week, or one solid run whenever you need it, or whatever), and you'll be set.
You're probably going to end up leveling half of them for subjobs or general utility (having Warp, Sneak and Invisible, for example, is really handy) eventually anyway.
