FFXI on Vista --- Does it work now?

I have search the forum and alot of the info is old so I was wondering if as of today does FFXI work well on Vista. I ask becuase I got a friend that just bought the game and has a new comp wit Vista. He has not installed the game yet but just in case Iwanted to see if there is something more that is going to need to be done to get him up and running in minimal amount of time.

FFXI does work on Vista but (depending on the system you have) there are still some issues. Most are pretty minor, but let me just say now that if you have a laptop with Vista on it, don't use it for FFXI. Something about my Compaq + Vista + FFXI = frustration.

With a PC I've heard there aren't as many - if any - issues. If your friend is planning to run FFXI with Windower then he might want to read up the Windower Wiki and how to optimize the program so that it works with as little issues as possible.

I have friends that play on Vista and they have absolutely no issues, and I have others who do. It's really pretty random. There are tons of threads around the net about it though so you can tweak it, if necessary.

if you have a laptop with Vista on it, don't use it for FFXI.

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop with Vista and FFXI works just fine. Not a lot of graphical RAM, so I have a lot of effects turned off, and Besieged/Dynamis are out of the question, but everything else works fine.

I have FFXI installed on 2 HP Vista laptops- I play FFXI with wireless connection and it matches the performance of my gateway desktop. Never had any problems and didn't adjust any security or operating settings.

Works good for me on a desktop Vista Home Ed, as long as you use SE's installation if you using old disc to install. But the new one's work fine.

As long as you use the Vista version on POL downloadable from Playonline.com it should run without any issues. I'm not sure if the dvd versions have been updated to include a vista install.

VD Collection '07 did not. I am not sure about '08.

Mine runs just fine in windowed mode... and I wouldn't know if the discs come with it because I have all the original discs >.<;

Mine also runs fine, once I went to the POL site, downloaded the Vista POL that everyone mentioned.

That being said, I did have issues for a while there with my video drivers - I eventually rolled back to a 02/07 version of the driver, instead of the 12/07 version, so it wouldn't crash.

hmm... however i am having a bit strange and awful situation that is before the any updates from FFXI I'm still fine, however after the FFXI update, subsequence time I will be throw out from the POL view (as most of the time I will be using the full screen mode)
Any suggestion, why does this happen >.<!

And i didn't update my POL view for vista version yet !

Update your POL... should fix it.
