Posting this here for a friend actually, as I have XI and it works great. But then I also don't have Vista.

Basically, he's using the Vista-compatable version of PlayOnline, but for some reason he only has control for a few seconds after opening PlayOnline. At which point both his mouse and keyboard seem to stop responding, and then any further attempts to use the mouse or keyboard ANYWHERE on his computer cause PlayOnline to completely stall out with a "Not Responding" in the title bar for a moment. After this he can't get control back and do anything with PlayOnline. I really hope I got this in the right forum...

I have Vista but have not heard of your issue as a common thing. You should post your PC specs--include your video card driver versions.

You're getting a system hang in PoL while starting just the PoL Viewer (Vista version)--No Windower, no other third party apps, correct?

Has this system ever successfully run PoL/FFXI (e.g. in a former incarnation like WinXP)?

Does it happen when you do something specific (like click the mouse) or does it happen even if you don't do anything?

Does it hang on a specific screen or after a certain amount of time?

According to my friend the important specs arrre...

XPS 420, Intel Core2 processorQ6600 (2.40Ghz,1066FSB)
3GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
256MB Radeon ATI HD 2600 XT

(From what I can tell these are quoted straight from the system models page, as it's a pre-built.)

No clue on the videocard driver version as neither he nor I know how to check that on Vista.

To clarify some on the problem, the system apparently works great even while PoL is stalling, ONLY PlayOnline hangs. No he's not using any third party apps, and the computer has never run XI or PoL in the past.

Far as I can tell now? The exact problem is that when it looks for an update, he loses mouse/keyboard control and the problem starts, being as it randomly stalls when he tries to do things. Things being anything at all. And even though mouse control comes back every so often, at no point can he click anything nor does the keyboard respond.

I'll note that it's a little hard to get information being as we don't live anywhere near each other, so I can't exactly go over to his place and check his system, but I'll do my best to get any information needed.

EDIT: Oh -wow-. XD Turns out it was an improperly plugged in cord or something, and from what he tells me, PoL is working now.

I was going to say... If it hangs on network access (update), it's probably something in the networking, but I see that you've already resolved the issue.

Happy gaming.
