Lately, I have become tired of doing two or three different jobs in a party. Not that I can't do it--it's because I don't want to do it, thus I only do Campaign now. Don't get me wrong; I can main heal as RDM with the best of them, keep my cycles and enfeebles up and still nuke. But the thing that is my problem--and has caused me to lose someone I once respected as a player up until,

Well, I'll let that sink in, as most of you know to whom I refer.
Perhaps it was my mistake to confide in a certain WHM/THF (oh wait that's a little to obvious), a certain THF/WHM when it came to handling main healing woes and how she got through it.
The conversation started easily enough and she was being very helpful until I said, "Well, WHM should really be main healer". Boy, was I wrong! It felt as if I had just opened Pandora's Box and cursed the earth. Immediately, this person--who WAS helping me--became hostile to my notion that a WHM should main heal...IN AN EXP PARTY >.> Was i missing something? So instead of leaving it at that, I asked "Why you do think RDM or SMN should main heal if a WHM is available?" And i thought the first reaction was harsh!
"Of course not!", the demon bellowed at me. "RDM has Refresh, Convert, and can cure longer than a WHM so it's better! Besides, a WHM can do other things; like restore MP to the party with Moonlight."
"Wait, what? Is that not a RDM's job? Or have I been leveling backwards my whole career?"
So I questioned her on how this fabled WHM MP restoration parlor trick worked and how effective it was. I was shocked to find that it only required 100%TP to reap the benifits of 10 MP? Hmmm, yeah. Well, I dont need to explain the RDM side of it; as all of you more than likely know, 150 MP in the time of 100% TP is greater than the "10 MP to everyone" reward. So, telling her this, I try to make my case--explaining that a WHM main healing and a RDM back up healing, supporting, and enfeebling is better than RDM main healing, WHM doing...whatever.
Another touchy subject. "Well, why can't I play how i want?" is the retort. "I'm a great WHM!"
Hold up; let's look at that last statement. "I'm a great WHM." Weird; I've partied with some great WHMs; I'm friends with some great WHMs and she's never been my notion of a great WHM. (Side ramble--who lets a coffer hunting party member die as a great WHM75?) So now, I touched on the subject about great WHMs subbing more "realistic jobs". "So what if i sub this--it works, doesn't it?"
"Yes, of course--if you have a RDM or SMN main healing in your place. So (insert name here), you're telling me that a party would be more effective with me main healing and WHM not, with the mythical Regen 2 or 3 I pull out of my ass, and the Cure V I magically pull down from the sky?
"Well, the WHM can cast those from the front line."
"Well, what's the point in that if you are trying to gain TP for Moonlight? Am I right?"
"Well, um, it's pretty efficient so I only need to cast it a few times."
"Is that because I'm busy dropping Cure 3's in your place or what?"
"Well, yeah, but that's what main healer does, silly." Back to square one--I'm silly now and still main healing; how did this happen to me?
So a while goes by and I say to her, "Have you ever seen RDM/NIN?" just to stir the pot; I knew what it was all about. "Yes", she said, "Why?"
"Well, I'm going to sub it for an exp party."
"Why? It doesn't give you anything." (hypocrisy #1 noted)
"What do you mean? It gives me lots; two weapons for melee, shadows for damage control, a little INT for spells."
"Well, a main healer shouldnt melee." (hypocrisy #2 noted)
"Oh, I wouldn't be main healing; I'm inviting a SMN or BLM for that--the WHM and I are going to SC."
"Why have a SMN or BLM heal if you're there; it's your job!" (hypocrisy #3 noted)
"But that's the point; I'm subbing something else so I don't need to do my job--I'm going to push it on someone else because I'm great enough already. I don't need to do it properly."
"Yeah, well RDM has no place meleeing; RDM is main healer, buffer, refresher, nuker, haster." (hypocrisy #4 noted)
"Whoa, what?"
"Yeah, RDM does all those jobs to make it easier for a WHM or BLM in the party."
"Um, right, I know that; but I won't be. I'm going to do it all from the front line while I melee."
"RDM shouldn't be on the front line meleeing; they should sub WHM and sit on the back line and main heal."
Bingo. Please tally up the notes and find the facts that our friend, the WHM, assumes RDM is the main healing job in this game; because apparently it's the only one that needs to sub a mage job to assist it.
This completley baffled me. Whether or not I subconsciously led her to this, I don't know; but whats done is done. A WHM/THF told me RDM/NIN has no place in a party. That's right, it's been said.
So i just wanted to share this exchange with you all. Hope you enjoy
A Guide on the study and interaction with the AnnA
Just an update on this--I am now proud owner of a very new /blist from Anna. I don't know what to do.
Well, first I'd like to thank SE; without this game I could never have received this award. I'd like to thank Krut for introducing me to her. I'd like to thank Anna herself for never taking a casual conversation as that and somehow warping it into a twisted personal attack.
For the record, this was not a result of this post. This was the result of defending her personal attacks against my brother, Krut; calling him a drunk ass, and an unthankful <expletive>.
Basically, I told her to be careful of her next words--apparently this means plenty of things in Annaspeak such as:
"You suck so stfu"
"You're pathetic and a lousy WHM"
"You are a ridiculous waste of time."
So to help you all deal with the AnnA species--bipolaris scitsonius; I will attempt a brief guide to a general meeting:
At first notice, the AnnA seems to be a genuine person of a respectable nature. From watching her in the distance, you see her raising people and helping. "Wow what a nice person.", you think to yourself.
Now as you approach, be very wary; the AnnA almost never travels alone, but with a pack of devoted followers (the dreaded "karma be gone" squad); they will go to the ends of the earth to protect their pack leader, the AnnA.
Although travelling in a pack, the AnnA is very much capable of maneuvering alone.
Getting closer still, you notice the odd commodity in front of you; a strange combination of curative power and theivery--a vile beast indeed. Looking beyond this, you see the shadow upon the AnnA being cast in a demonic way.
Now I must warn you--conversation with the AnnA is highly unrecommended; it can lead to many symptoms--such as anger, bloodlust, hatred; though more common symptoms include splitting sides, sore cheeks, pissed pants and rolling on floors.
The AnnA will approach you first, and greet you with a hug; the venoumous--often deadly--event can cause you to become lulled into a false sense of security. The AnnA is always hungry for attention and will flit around you until you speak to her.
Speaking to the AnnA must only be done by people with empty bladders, carpeted floors, and no drinks in their mouths. The AnnA will begin a pleasant conversation with you, but will attempt to deter you from expressing a personal opinion.
Key phrases to use to maintian a safe conversation:
"Oh yeah", "Right on!", "Good stuff." "Good bye; nice to see you."
However--more often than not--the AnnA will take personal offense to such polite remarks; the AnnA--unsuccessful in baiting you--will up the ante and begin to insult people you may or may not know.
Now the AnnA has sprung a trap; because whichever way you answer, it will lead to similar results of laughter.
Be warned; another secret attempt from the AnnA will be an offer to buy cookies. This is a very hazardous situation. If the AnnA asks for cookies, do not feed her them--for she will become malcontent if you run out of them. However, by refusing, the result will be bantering and bickering of another Annatantrum; the most deadly of all the AnnA abilities.
I hope this will assist any of you if you wish to hunt AnnAs in the wild; they are a rare beast and and a pleasure to hunt.
