What is the general role of RDM in dynamis?
Is it the same as xp party.. refresh, haste, heal? Or is there more too it? I'm soon to be 65, and would like to know what my role is going to be when I begin to pursue dynamis.

It depends actually, but when you first get into a Dynamis LS and start off at lower levels, yes. You'll be a normal party RDM, responsible for 2-3 Refreshes and 2-3 Hastes, and debuffing mobs here and there(especially Silence!).
Many linkshells like to utilize RDMs for following the puller around and keeping them alive, as well as for controlling crowds by sleeping several mobs, but you aren't likely to be put into that role pre-75 and until you've been in the LS for awhile.
An couple of tips: Always, always have Stoneskin up, and make a /assist macro for whoever the main tank in your alliance is(i.e. "/assist Tankguy" so that you only target what he's fighting...casting Dia or something on the wrong mob can easily get you killed!

Thanks. i'm no stranger to raiding and assisting. I was just curious how FF handled it. And how much my role would possibly change.
Sounds like my job role is not going to change all that much from the standard xp party and the non standard xp party. I already end up keeping up 3 to 4 refreshes in a party along with 3 hastes and enfeebing (when i'm not main heal), as well as massive sleep chaining things for the really fast parties. Just sounds like the scale will be changing.

The main thing you'll have to get used to is a bit more lag, and a lot more death. If you have a LS already that's waiting for you to hit 65 that's cool, otherwise I personally would wait until 70+ to start Dynamis.
A bad night can set you back 5-10xp, which makes the path to 75 a bit tougher, and there's a billion 75 RDMs out there, making you unlikely to get RDM AF2 before you can use it. However, if you have lots of spare time to make up the XP and a linkshell already, hop right in and start stockpiling points.

That makes sense. I might just wait till I hit 75. Unlike when I left, there are alot of things to keep me busy nowadays other than just leveling lol.
Just figured I would find out though cause some people have been asking me if I'm doing dynamis at 65 with them lol

For a few bosses, specifically in Valkurm, Qufim and Xarcabard, it's common to have a few RDMs use Chainspell + Stun during the fight. So having /DRK available and levelled to 37 will be a great asset as well.

What are you people talking about?
I started Dynamis not long ago, and my role from day one is crowd control--keep critters asleep without getting K.O.'ed too often--because recast timer in weakened state sucks. (Yes, keep casting Sleepga, Sleep, and Sleep II even when weakened--Convert while weakened if out of MP to keep sleeping stuff.) Gravity and Bind against sleep resistant opponents, of course, and Silence on nasty spell casters.
Buffs wise, myself is the top priority: Stoneskin, Blink, Refresh, Haste, Aquaveil, and maybe even Phalanx. Other mages get Refresh when I'm not busy dying. I stop bothering with hasting anyone but myself after the first run--the melees can kill stuff fast enough, WHM can haste them if needed, and I don't need the distraction.
I toss out emergency cures when possible/needed, of course, but usually I'm the one who need the emergency cure--five or more dynamis monsters slapping you from from all directions at the same time really kills the Stoneskin fast. x_x;
Red Mage's job in Dynamis is crowd control, as far as I can tell.

RDM does require many different subjobs to be available to do all the things you may asked to do, and yes, DRK is one of them.

Oh, OP is under Lv.65.
Um.... Stay out of Dyanmis. Wait until Lv.75 (or at least until Lv.72), so you can be a useful at crowd control. By then, you'd be able to join merit parties to make back the experience points lost fast. (Or solo ~1k exp per Campaign Battle easily.)
Dynamis RDM has two support jobs: /BLM and /DRK. Get both ready before you join any Dynamis LS.

RDM at 65 in Dynamis is nigh on useless, as the only spell you have that's of any use at all is Refresh. Sleep, Sleepga, Sleep II will bounce like rubber if you're level 65 - all you'll do is get yourself killed that much faster. Silence won't stick, either, and neither will Paralyze, both of which are important in specific circumstances (spellcasting pets/NMs, especially those that cast Silencega or Breakga, as well as MNK-types that can and will use Hundred Fists).
Stay out of there until at least 70 if you have fantastic gear, higher if your gear is average or worse. 75 if you're attempting any zone that has Kindred, as they're particularly resistant to dark magic Sleeps.

90% of the time when I was doing Dynamis, I was a designated Sleeper (/BLM) and Refresher for a statue kite PLD, his designated WHM and a couple of BLMs (Statue Nukers).
Another RDM (one of the Run Leaders) was in charge of pulling.
Expect major death if you get set as a Sleeper--when the mobs wake up, they will frequently kill you en masse unless the DD's pull them off. Maintain your distance and most of the time it'll be fine, but it takes some getting used to especially if you are running around healing or moving back and forth between multiple groups because your party is positionally fractured. It feels a lot like BRD.

Our ls does Dynamis but we are not exclusively a Dynamis ls, so our runs usually have a smaller number of people than a ls that is exclusively for Dynamis. So in our ls, we usually have 1 or 2 rdms a run so they are on main sleep duty. One of the things I always tell new rdms is that sleeping is your priority and your refresh chain might have to wait. It can be a disaster if a new rdm doesn't realize this. You also need to have good communication with your fellow rdm. Let him/her know if you need them to watch some sleeping mobs so you can throw a refresh/haste/heal on someone. We can basically tell you how we each handle runs but in the end it depends on how your ls covers things. It's best to ask a fellow experienced rdm that does runs with your shell.
I agree with the others when they say to wait till you are 71+ for Dynamis. Unless you are going to be needed mainly for healing, it is frustrating at your level in Dynamis. Nothing worse than being excited about doing something new and it turns out miserably. So let them know if they ever need healing/refresh power that you are more than happy to help but main sleeper/debuffer {No, thanks.}. Good luck and have fun!
