View Full Version : Why no GLogitech® GamePanel™ LCD Technology support?

If you don't have a Logitech G15, you might not know what I'm talking about. The Logitech G15 keyboard has a little LCD display, that shows certain information. Current media, PC performance, a clock, and so on. During games, it can show a bunch of ingame information. Imagine shooting games displaying ammo of current weapons, and MMORPG showing your character's attributes (Str, Agi etc)

Since I got myself one of those awesome Keyboards (Logitech G15), I've had some great fun playing games who support this, like WoW and UT2004. A couple games who didn't, that I also played, had a tiny little update and then they also supported this, thus allowing several game informations to be displayed on the LCD display. It would be so awesome if SE could make something out of this for FFXI. I don't know if this is a lot to do, but after having thought about it logically, I came to the conclusion that this shouldn't be a difficult update.
So my question to Square-Enix is, and I actually regret that I haven't put it in the list to be asked at the Festival.. Will there ever be an update covering GamePanel support?

I'm sure players could whip up a windower mod for it.

Right, so where is it? I don't see anything on the windower forums. What if I don't use Windower?
It's a good question non-the less isn't it. You could say that to nearly every question.
Q:Why don't higher level Thf don't get "Flee II" ?
A:I'm sure someone can make a speedhack.
lol
Because SE hates the client.

How many people actually own one of these things, though? If anything, you should bug Logitech and tell them to contact Square-Enix to bug them to support their specialized hardware. It'll be much more effective than asking S-E to do it as an end user.

Probably the same old tired "We want to keep the game the same on all systems" answer or something. Besides, maybe I'm not thinking broadly enough but what all could be put on that tiny little screen that would be so incredibly useful?

I'm just fine with not having support. I use the screen to run haste and protect timers using the packaged chronograph plugin. Very nice to have warning when protect is about to drop from the party.
As for will it ever be supported? I'm fairly confident no. If it was supported, SE I'm sure would feel obligated to add the same functionality to the PS2 and Xbox360 version, and that's probably more headache than they care to go through.

If SE did add support for it, what would you want displayed on there? <pos>? Gil? TNL?

-Average level of the competence of the members in your party.
We REALLY need this one!!
-Bladder capacity indicator so you know how much longer you can wait.
Oh pfft, do what I do! Wear Depends!! :P :P

oh damn it drunken posting is not cool...
Ok I have one of those g15 keyboards, and they are freakin' awesome. I have a program called evemon that puts the timers on when skills would complete training on it. Yay go me.

Here ya go. Basically this thread is solved. Let people make the content they want for their games. We didn't have any way to window FFXI or alt-tab, so ppl created a way. SE doesn't have GLogitech support, so users made their own.
You use a PC mang, we don't need to rely on only SE.
P.S. I don't condone any kind of online cheating so don't take my post as suggesting anything of that sort.
Let people make the content they want for their games.
yes, except SE seems to think that anything that enhances FFXI and improves on it's faults is cheating.

Well, to be fair, since stuff like that doesn't come from S-E themselves, then there's the potential that not every person playing the game will have access to such tools, thus making the game unfair to them if they are still using a so-called "faulty" interface as opposed to somebody's homebrewed "fixed" one.
Also, PS2 and 360.
Also, PS2 and 360.
Biggest problem with FFXI tbh.
All for setting up a mod API that works across all consoles?

I for one think it would be awesome. What is this chronograph plugin you're talking about, Tsrwedge?
As reply to "They would need to make this for every system"
The PS2 and Xbox360 support is not an issue. This is obviously for PC users only, as consoles use controllers. And even if PS2 and Xbox360 are able to do this, it wouldn't be hard to make either, unless the Logitech Keyboard or the Console's aren't able to do so. That's not SE problem then though.
As reply to "What would you need to put on it?"
Well how about /tell or pary invite notifiers? Or just other fun stuff. There's a lot you can do. A lot of games that support this also run and play fine without this specific keyboard. It's just for fun either way... but that's what games are all about anyway!

It is in the software that accompanied the keyboard. In the LCD Control Panel, it's under "Logitech G-series LCD Countdown Timer". Config page is shown below.

Ah, that. I should've known. I was hoping for an actual FFXI plugin.
I'm sure everyone can imagine that feeling, when you're logging into Final Fantasy, and your Keyboard LCD displays " Final Fantasy XI "
That's a little bit of happiness right there :P
Ps. That Haste timer of yours, isn't that unhandy if you have more than 1 person in your party that needs Haste?

No, cos it marks the first haste in the cycle. If I'm /blm, I know the second one needs to go off at about 2:12-2:10, or if I'm /sch I know it ought to be 2:15-2:12, and so on.
