Need opinion

I posted this on KI, and got more or less flammed or awwed at by most of the people there. I don't have the schedule to play ffxi for hrs on end, so i keep it to about 9 hrs a week. I play bst atm, and its going great. I was wondering would SAM fit this schedule. I am raising a craft so i dont need to camp a great deal of NMs to get cash, and i sometimes play more than that 9 hrs ( tends to cap around 14). Note this time constraint, is because of school and on holidays i can play up to 21 hrs a week, or around that. Well what do you think would sam work, or is there another job that would be ok. (please dont say brd, sure it gets pts like crack, but it just doesnt appeal to me)

All DD have typically longer waiting times unless you are willing to always start your own PTs. If you start your own PT, you never have to wait. If you wait on someone to invite you, just know that you are competing against WAR, DRK, RNG, DRG, MNK, THF, and BLU for that DD slot in the PT.

Mage jobs are better with wait times. (save blm :\)

If you arent in a rush to get capped out then go for it. If you like the job enough to take your time, then I'd say giving yourself ~3 hours a day to catch a pt and get an 1hr+ worth of xp is decent. Keep yourself occupied during the wait times so you dont feel like you're not being productive with your limited playing time.

SAM is possible, you'll just have to be patient. To be honest if you're only playing 9 hours a week, you could possible spend all 9 of that looking for a party off and on. Try and make your own parties and just be prepared for it to take awhile to get to 75.

If you start your own parties, your average wait time will be shorter--but you'd still have the problem of no tank and/or no healer at least some of the time.

Stick to BST. =/

There is something to be said for IfritnoItazura's reply. BST definitely has it's advantages for your schedule.

Concerning SAM, I suppose that if you really wanted to play it, then hell, play it. It's just my humble opinion, but with your limited time allotment for FFXI, I'd stick with BST.

Something that you might want to think about as well would be the amount of time that your going to spend leveling appropriate pt sub jobs for SAM as well. I would think that would be fairly time intensive. If you stick w/ BST, you can level whm to 37 and take BST all the way up.

Actually, you might try leveling BLM up if SAM turns out to be too much of a chore with your time restraints. BLM can solo for the vast majority of their career (a friend of mine solo'd BLM 40-70 in two weeks, making 10-15k per hour... note that this friend is ridiculously rich and thus could afford all the best gear, so these results probably will vary), and from what I've heard it can be a lot of fun. Just thought I'd throw that in there for you to consider.

I successfully to whm to 37 a long time ago. Thanks for all your help, i think i might be able to play Sam, or if that fails ill figure something out.
