Ok I have just got dancer for my Galka. I originally started my Galka as a warrior so these figures are based on that starting role. All starting stats are without gear or any merits, these are you bog standard naked figures for the advanced jobs I have got so far. Still need data for drg, pup, cor, sch, blu

From the above it looks like to start off with the best sub is Mnk, due to the 2 hand boost. I will do some testing in zehrn with how quick tp gain is between dagger and 2H. The mnk has the most HP, best Def and Attack power for low level soloing.

If you have /PUP leveled, it's probably the best support job during the first few levels. Supposedly, you can set it up as either a healer or an attacker.
My friend used SCH/PUP from Lv.5->7 in a party of three with me earlier, and the Automaton was doing about 2/3 as much damage as he was--basically 60%+ more damage output, while forgetting maneuvers most of the time. We were killing EP to T's.
DNC does a lot more damage than SCH, even with a dagger, so /PUP's damage from Automaton wouldn't be as impressive. In that case, I'd try to set up a healer type automaton instead. (Or the ranger type, if killing bats.)

Random observations:
- Tanking is bad in a party with DNC; you want to spread out the damage received amongst the front line, to make best use of the Drain Samba (sp?).
- The amount drained doesn't seem to be very tied to the damage dealt; a friend on NIN75/DNC5 was draining from 1-5 HP per hit on TWs, while we were doing about 0-4 HP per hit with a DNC7 in the trio fighting EPs to Ts. This is a very strong boost to low delay weapons, Martial Arts, and Dual Wield. o_O

Ok so the testing. Looking through the AH it appears DNC can use some subligar and harneses as well as rabbit mantel, bloodstone etc.
I am going to dock brick up in the best "standard" gear (as not everyone can afford +1 gear, nor is it required in cost vs usefull life).
My testing is going to be on bats at lvl 1 I will see how many hit to gain tp with dagger then H2H.
I will be using a bronze Knife (daggers can't be used by DNC!) (bought from Bastock weapon shop for 150gil and Cesti (about 156 gil I think)
Setup for brick is as follows
Dancer/Monk (base for lvl 1)
HP 42, MP 0, STR 9, Dex 9, VIT 10, AGI 8, INT 6, MND 6, CHR 7, Att 18, Def 14
Weapon - Bronze Knife - DMG 4, Delay 195. (knocks down ATT to 17)
Weapon - Cesti - DMG +1, Delay +48, ACC +3 ATT is 18
Head - Bronze Cap - Def +2
Body - Bronze Harness - Def +4
Waist - Blood Stone - HP+5
Legs - Bronze Subligar - Def+3
Feet - Bronze Leggins - Def +1 (Vagabond boots may be usefull for the +1 healing if you can get them.
Ammo- Happy Egg Hp +1%, VIT +1
Rings - Aniversary ring or empress - Once activated then 2x Bronze Rings (+1 HP each).
So stats are...
HP 49, MP 0, STR 9, Dex 9, VIT 10, AGI 8, INT 6, MND 6, CHR 7, Att 18, Def 24
With the MNk sub job H2H skill is equivilent of -A grade as my cap for this show is 6 compared to Dagger at 5. Also, if you change sub to anything else This H2H cap goes down to 4 or C/D as shown on wiki.
So Far H2H is the only ability to have the highest skill rate at low levels. It is worth noting that so far DNC cannot use a sheild. Looking at teh equipment choice for armour it looks like the character is based around same defence as previous DD jobs.
So on to Zehren mines to see which gets TP better and hits etc.

Ok H2H time...
Cesti - hits between 3-7 taken off bats. 8 rounds to get 100TP 2 rounds with only one of 2 hits hitting mob. Average tp gain per hit between 6-8.
Bronze Knife - average hits 5-7 per hit equivilent of 3 rounds per 2 rounds of H2H
14 rounds to 100% tp.
Total 3 rounds to 2 rounds = 8 rounds H2H = 12 rounds Knife. Therefore H2H gains TP skill quicker. H2H also hits for more damage over time.
After 10 mobs each H2H is averageing 12TP per round. Dagger is 5 Tp per hit/round.
H2H is definately the best TP Builder

It is now proven Dagger is the highest cap for weapon for Dancer, H2H isn't far behind.

Ok Lvl 5 gives me the first Dance.
This is a Job Ability under new heading "Sambas" called Drain Samba.
Macrod in for me as /ja "Drain Samba" <me> TP used for this is 10 TP so basically you only need to hit with H2H one round to enable to activate.
Recast is 60 seconds. Duration is 2 mintues (120 SECONDS) so you can instandly cast it once its run out, no wating time.
Cast it and brick does a kind of dancing fling (see pic) and using H2H drains between 1 & 4 HP per hit i.e. with H2H if both hits hit you drain twice. This was against a EP worm.

Against A DC Leech it was between 0-3 Hp per hit.
No drain effect when using weapon skill.
No drain effect if you hit for 0.
No of hits or amount of Hp taken does not affect the duration of this ability.

When will people learn for levels 1-10, nothing and I mean NOTHING beats /PUP unless you're already a pet job. I have serenade set to Valor Edge and he's saved my ass so many times!
It's a little annoying having to order him to attack every time but still! ^_^

Ok thanks to ellipses who dued with me for 3 levels (now at lvl 9) we found out some more things.
Firstly - undead i.e. wolves, skeles gives no Hp like with drain for BLM and DRK.
when in a Party...
we tried a few things out..
heres a pic of the 2 of us (both galkas) fighting tough leeches and gobs etc. in dangruf wadi. He was RDM/WHM lvl 8-9 I was DNC/MNK lvl 7-9 I had aniversary ring on)

What we found out is after I have activated dance it works on me i.e. i am the only one who gets the symbol. when in a party I ahve to fight the same mob as party members and be engaged to teh mob before the drain effect is passed to other party members.
We tested it with ellipses fighting a leech without me engaging it. he hit it 3 times, no drain effect. i joined in the fight and imediately after I engaged it, the drain effect was activated on ellipses so he was able to drain hp off the mob with his attacks. I fI am fighting a different mob to him, we beleive he will not get the drain effect until i am actively hitting the mob he is. We still need to test that theory.
The next dance move isn't until lvl 15 grrr.
H2H is so much better for fighting than knife and I will keep that up for many levels.

The good news is i can use quite alot of gear for dancer. Currently at lvl 9 i have full leathers with rabbit mantle and compound eye circlet. I can use sandys and bastocks lvl 10 gear i.e. bastoken mittens, harness etc. and royal footmans, boots, hands etc. also all subligar sets. which is great as I still have +1 Bone gear fr lvl 16 and beetle gear for 21 in my MH.

It's a two stage process; the Drain Samba gives you a "buff", which is an ability to enfeeble your target with a short duration "drain daze". (It's not a status effect on other party members at all--it's a beneficial status effect on DNC, then a detrimental one the monster.) You'd have to actually hit the critter for the enfeeb to land--swinging and missing doesn't do a thing.
The daze doesn't last very long, so you're required to keep landing hits. If fighting multiple monsters, other party members can continue to drain from one monster for a short time while the dancer switch to a different target.

Dinged 15 and got Curing waltz.
I have 2 pieces of VIT+ gear Warriors belt +1 and Happy egg. This basically gives me a VIT +4 increase.
I cast curing waltz with the belt and egg on needing 100HP to get back to full HP. Curing waltz does 71HP regenerated. Taking off the egg and belt getting knocked down 100HP again. I used curing waltz and it only did 70HP. After testing this 10 times with gear and without the results were constant.
My deducation is that VIT plays a slight role in how much curing waltz cures by. As I level dancer I will see if this (currently minute difference) increases.

((Your CHR + Target's VIT)/4) + 60 = HP cured. In this case, you were the target, so changing your VIT changed the number.

So for a healing dancer chr + gear may help.

It's a little annoying having to order him to attack every time but still! ^_^
Macro it. /attack should work for you, and /ja or /pet or whatever the command to control pets for it. Two or three lines, label it attack, and just swipe that once you have your target selected. Worked for me.
(actually, I once got bored and macroed my character to be practically a bot. All I had to do was press macro keys over and over while I was farming. Very inefficient, though)
