Tachi of Trials in an xp party? o.o

Ok....I have a quick question for all of you guys. There was a samurai in my level 71 party that was wearing a tachi of trials, hachiman body, and puissance rings ( not to mention a lot of other low level gear ). Keep in mind that I'm a tarutaru and he's a hume.

I try to keep on top of my samurai as much as I can and I've got an assortment of good stuff: O-hat, hauby, shini haidate, soboro sukehiru, vic rings, etc. I could have been using my tachi of trials in an xp party, but I didn't because I wanted to kill mobs fast. I ask him if he had anything else other than his tachi and he said that the only reason he didn't have one was that he "couldn't find one on the auction house".

He claimed he did more damage than me....well yeah! Soboro sukehiro has a lower base damage, as well as I'm a tarutaru. And then he promptly made statements like "LOL you're a tarutaru, Your strength sucks!" After which I promptly kicked him.....and found a blue mage that was ten-times better than this guy.

Was I right, or was I wrong?

But alas. You were in the right. Trial weapons aren't for exp parties*, people.

*Though if you are in an EXP party with friends or whatever, and they don't mind, have at it. Though that should go without saying, you never know on these forums.

I'm no high lvl Sam, but isn't the Soboro that suped up multi-hit Gkatana that every sam wants? I think that alone more then makes up for the lower damage per hit by exponetially increasing your WSs.

Yes, that's what stupido samurai didn't realize. I'm doing a lot more damage over time with my 3-hit great katana than he is doing with weaponskills alone.

I've seen trials weapons used in EXP parties that didn't adversely affect the party. Unless they were really sucking or causing problems for the party I don't see what the problem is.

I am guilty of using Tachi of Trials in exp party. Actually all of level 71 I used it. I didn't see it a wrong thing to do, because the weapon dmg was equivalent to my exp weapon (kazidachi, excuse grammer) and the delay is a most GK. If I had the soboro, and used maybe a war sub more often, I wouldnt use Tachi of Trials, but I sub thf, and stack on Str gear; to be honest I dont miss many ws, I sa+ws and then ta+ws and maybe sata if I get that golden chance.

Currently I am 72, just got my new ws Tachi Kasha ^^ and use the +5str tp drain GK, since i cant afford the Hagun.

It was partially his attitude that affected me. This samurai feels that he can skimp on haubergeon, a great katana, and even rings because he's a hume. Then he insults me in the party by saying my strength sucks? That pushed me over the edge into kicking him.

What surprised me the most is that he "claims" he has 2 other 75 melee jobs. Thought he would have at least a hauby.

People who think they can skimp on a job because of their race fail. :/

There's nothing wrong with a trials weapon in exp.


There IS however, something wrong with showing up in crap gear and generally sucking :P

1) Tachi of Trials isn't bad for EXP actually, but only for that one level. It has pretty decent base DMG, a Soboro can out do it but it's acceptable. Personally as soon as I hit Lv.71 I grabbed a tank buddy of mine and we spent like 2 hrs to break the latent, and then I duo'd the Beetle. I had Tachi: Kasha before I had a complete EXP buffer.

2) Soboro after the 2 handed update will out do most Great Katanas in DPS, Hagun will out shine due to WS numbers, and of course final stage relic. A few others with a nice STR build can out do it too, but DPS and 3 500 dmg Gekkos a fight will out do most other Great Katanas. Especially when you can eat meat dishes in most instances and drop 60-90 damage a pop. You're looking at a range of 60 to 270 damage an attack round as SAM/WAR. Depending on the set up, I sometimes use my Soboro in a meripo. Usually when I'm tanking though - non-stop attacking with Enmity+10. Just wish I could Parry with 3rd Eye/Seigan up to get some damn skill ups.

3) Anybody, at that level, who makes comments on race based stats is worth of a kick in my eyes. Sounds like you have the gear required to do your job, you may find a similarly equiped SAM that's Galka or Elvaan out do you, but it won't be by much. In the end it sounds like you made the right choice when you picked up the BLU.

If it was the tachi of trials alone that bugged me, I would have let him stay. It does have a decent base damage. However, the rest of his gear and his attitude made provoked me to kick him.

My old LS leader was like that, and it drove me absolutely batty, to the point we'd have large arguments in the shell over it. He told me that any taru who wanted to DD should have another character for that, and the usual crap about Xrace cannot do Y job. He pissed me off so much, but the kicker was when he KICKED a Galka from our shell because he was leveling Red Mage (the leader was a 75RDM who loved to put the whole "RDM can do anything" idea in people's heads)

The only race/jobs I lol at are Galka RDM (lolconvertratio) and Tarutaru DRK (lolkrakendrk) - and the latter only at endgame.

Neither of these job combinations is "bad" - just more gear-specific to the point where even gear doesn't help you make up all the shortfall under the specified circumstances. I wouldn't turn away either one in an XP party, except "perhaps" the Galka RDM for merits unless I happen to know they have an AF2 hat and a Dalmatica (of which there are precisely zero Galka RDMs that fit this description on my server). Even here my decision is more influenced by the fact that I have RDM at 75 on a Tarutaru character... :)

Well, I am kinda up in the air on what to do with my Sam. I have it to 75 and just recently got the sobo and shura body. I know hauby is better for sam because of str but i spent my last 400k on BST weapons and it took me forever to get that Arb. I do some allright dmg on ws but i feel my ws acc is lacking a bit aswell as missing the occasional 1/1 1/2 1/3 attacks i get from sobo. Race comment: I am Elvaan however so maybe thats why.
my previous set up use to be the str 5 gkt with the sam jse body shura legs and swaps between shura kabuto and turban. I also wear the upper version of the fuma boots which name has slipped my mind. Maybe i should use potent belt instead of warwolf.
I really like wearing the Shura body but my mnk gets to wear it so should i really invest my money in the hauby? or keep the extra attack acc i get from shura.
I will say the sobo rules. I have yet to try /war with sobo but I am going to check it out. I always subed thf to to shake the haters off.

anyway opinion on the booting of players. I would have asked him if he would leave the party, first give the option to disband, with something to the effect of.....
excuse me ? Crappysam can you just go find another party my game experience would be much better off if you werent here, that and i dont beleive you shouldnt be exping with a Tachi of trials. Then add something to the effect of..... Raptor jerkin wtf? then have everyone else point and laugh.
