The screenshots speak for themselves. Although I haven't tested it, I assume Demon's Hecatomb Wave still does dark damage too (as opposed to the BLU version's wind damage.)

Dude, that is awesome :)

Does this mean Barwatera isn't worth it against flies?

Barwatera still works against Venom. It just means it won't help you at all against Cursed Sphere (which is unfortunate, since Cursed Sphere is much more painful.)

Edit: ^__________________________^ what he said, dammit Armando. :)

...the simplest test, yet took so long to do.
Awesome discovery btw :thumbsup:

Great, the only job that CAN help against this has *much* better buffs to cast ; ;
What prompted you to test this, BTW?
And are we sure? Not that your tests aren't always well thought out and well tested, but I was under the impression that the Dark Elemental/Spirit was highly resistant to all but Light based magic. Do you have test with the Water Spirit or Fire Spirit to see if there was any difference in damage?

Last two screenshots are with Water Spirit and Thunder Spirit, which should've taken as little damage as Dark Spirit did if mob Cursed Sphere were Water-based. That aside, I'm fairly sure Dark Elemental only resists itself....the simplest test, yet took so long to do.The irony is that it did take me almost an hour and had to waste more than 100k on the spirits.What prompted you to test this, BTW?The fact that certain Blue Magic spells had elements different from the mob's original version, and the fact that no one had done any conclusive tests to prove once and for all whether or not Fly's Cursed Sphere got changed to Water type.
Edit: Actually, the main thing was that it hadn't occurred to me up 'til now that I could use Spirits for this.Great, the only job that CAN help against this has *much* better buffs to cast ; ;Yeah, sucks. Although I'd much rather have Earthen Ward than Bardarkra.

They might not. But you know they still will.

Shhh...dont jinx it~! x_x
My bad Armando, I didn't notice the Water Spirit part in that screenie. I see it now.
As far as the Dark Spirit being resistant to all, I guess I could test that. I have a SMN75 "mule" I could go out and test with. Test a few other AoE elemental magic moves from mobs to determine if there's any difference in damage. Like Sandspin, Bubble Shower, etc;
Of course I'm also picking up Assassin's Creed on the way home tonight, so I may not login for a few days. :thumbsup:

Too bad by the time Dark Carol is avaiable people doesn't even fight Flies anymore, plus not worth losing other buffs unless you have 2 brds. :rofl:
SE should allow BRDs to stack 2 offensive songs and 1 defensive. :angry:

BRDs are already kind of hax. Do we need to increase the hax? (And in the process increase the number of things a BRD has to do in a party).
I really hope the answer is no.

SE said they changed it to water... maybe only the ones in valk are water based? I believe they said something about why they changed it, or maybe just someone said it as a comment or whatever, but i think it was something along the lines of changing it to water element because it'd be easier for lower levels to defend themselves.
Should check that to be sure.

Let's lower their song skills to F, that'll fix their hax!

BRD's can combine singing + instrument skill, so they actually have (Edit > to work more) to get a good amount of functional skill so to speak.
And playing a Carol takes kinda the same amount of time as Finale, so it wouldn't affect BRDs routine much. and is a shame BRDs rarely use any defensive songs because of the limit, so a change is needed there.
Alternatively WHM could simply get Bardarkra/light (along with RDM and the self-target version).

Balfree: The only thing S-E said is "In accordance with the addition of blue magic, several monster techniques have been altered." Regardless, I tested Damselflies just in case, same result. Most definitely Dark-based, no matter how you look at it.

That's full Bomb Toss damage right there. Clearly, it's not resistant. By extension, we can assume it doesn't resist any of the 6 elements in the wheel. Check this out though:

Notice the difference in damage? I'll give you a hint: in the second screenshot, DarkSpirit was right in front of me before it died.
By the way, I tested Hecatomb Wave. It's actually Wind-based, despite what I thought. And it exhibits the same angle-based damage reduction Wing Cutter and Wyrm breaths do.
