Impatient Chocobo ---- What the ****

I have recently got my chocobo to adult stage and I have earned my whistle. My main drive to get a chocobo was for travel. I worked on getting speed and endurance up but unfortunately due to being busy in RL my care plan was not the greatest to say the least. I currently have my chocobo with a bit dificient Speed and endurance. I have had the story of Impatient Chocobo for a while now but am having trouble getting Metalspeedster ( love the name) :P to learn gallop. Once again due to being busy in RL my affection has dropped all the way down and I think that this is my problem but am not sure. I did not have any trouble getting whislte, it only took 3 tries to get it. So was wondering what am i doing wrong and how do i fix it to get my chocobo to learn Gallop. I plan to retire it after it learns this ability.

I say get the affection up and spam the story. As far as I know learning abilities is somewhat random...x.X

From what I understand, you need a bit deficient or better Discernment in order to learn abilties. Other than that it's random. Unfortunately, there's really no way you can raise your chocobo's discernment without hurting its speed and endurance.

But does the Canter and Gallop skills have any effect on world riding, or only the Cho racing?

I've read in the wiki that having Gallop and first class strength will get you up to rental chocobo speeds. I couldn't tell you more than that because so far I've only raised a digger (First-class Discernment and Receptivity, Burrow, Bore).

First class str is only rental cho speeds? Boo. I was hoping that I could have a faster than rental speed. -,-
