View Full Version : What do you plan to merit?

Well, server maintenance ... :vent:

So this isn't a "zomg your choice in merits is WRONG" thread, just something for us to sit down and talk about what we want to do to make our characters better kind of thing.

As of right now, I have:
Dia III (capped)
Slow II (level 1)
Elemental Magic (2/8)
Enfeebling Magic (2/8)

From here, I'm going to work on capping elemental magic. Why? Because I'm leveling BLM, and less resists = happy Aksannyi. After that, I'll push enfeebling magic to the max because everyone wants RDMs to have that capped for endgame.

Following that, I will probably finish Slow II.

Following that, it will either be Convert recast or Thunder accuracy. Why thunder accuracy? Because I duo with my BLM friend, and I get tired of resists, and I do more nuking and chainstunning as a RDM anymore than I do enfeebling, sad to say.

I might throw some MAX MP merits in there, and maybe some INT or MND ones if I'm up to it, not sure I can't just take care of that stuff with gear. Maybe spell interruption rate before I level BLM, so I can solo more efficiently? Haven't decided yet, the enfee. and ele. skills are top priority though.

THEN comes WHM or BLM, which ever gets to 75 first - probably WHM but who knows I still can't afford that noble's.

WHM: Devotion, Protectra V, Shellra V. No question there, really.
BLM: Burst II and Freeze II, Thunder and Ice potency.

I have a lot planned for my character over the next few months or so, notice I'm not messing with EMN + or - as I might decide to level a tank job one day and I wouldn't want to have lowered emnity for that.

So that's that, those are my goals, and this is more of a place for me to just record them and keep track of them than to really discuss, feel free to write your own future meriting plans (and feel free to go WAYYYYYYYYY into the future, as I have). Rip me apart for my choices if you must, I'm pretty set in my ways though. :biggrin:

I really don't know what I should be doing with SMN group 2 merits. I should get 1 drk base and 1 light base and just max it, though, it's kinda useless regardless, the damage is kinda low for a level 75 skill/magic. :(

Has anyone gotten full magic accuracy with magic damage and a fully merited group 2 blood pact? I'd love to hear your experiences on it.

Plan: Maybe to finish all my magic for smn, add points for attributes into MND for my whm, get more +mp and cap -enmity.

HP 8/8 for Souleater damage
8/8 Ninjustsu for /nin enfeebles (yes this works; not on anything useful though, but it's cool when soloing EMs)
8/8 Dark Magic for /drk stunning (this works too; even on big mobs as long as the skill is capped for level 37)

Coincidentally, everything I plan to merit on RDM(barring job specifics), will work out fairly well when I finally take up BLU and PLD(with the exception of Dagger, maybe). Even DRK(another ambition), will see benefit from some of my choices, even if not all of them are ideal for the latter jobs.

My meriting has slowed to a crawl, so it's a long climb up the mountain...

RDM: Lv.3 Slow II - Lv.2 Phalanx II - Lv.1 Paralyze II
SAM: Lv.3 Overwhelm 1/5 Store TP

RDM Plans: Dunno. I don't have time for HNM activities, so the only thing my RDM does is Pink Mage work. I have 998 MP naturally, and don't find a reason to Convert every 10 min on the dot, so Convert merits aren't worth it yet. I've considered capping Ice & Wind (Bind & Blizzard, Silence & Gravity) but I'm hearing more Ice & Earth reasoning lately. But again I'm in no real hurry to finish these off. Category #2 for RDM is finishes.

SAM Plans: 4/5 into Store TP (Getting that 6 hit build is so easy with gear, not sure where I'm going with this yet.) 4~5/5 Meditate, maybe a Zanshin. Lv.1~2 Shikikoyo, Lv.1~2 Ikishoten. Depends on which one I decide is more important at that time.

DRK Plans: Just about none. Nobody seems to want it, so I guess it'll be used for missions or random things that require stun. So sad too, I really had fun leveling DRK.

Aksannyi: Curious why you didn't go with Ice. Go with the HQ Ice Staff, utilizing the Elemental Skill +10, and the Ice bonus as opposed to the Thunder. I think ultimately you may have better returns from Blizzard III than Thunder III as a RDM in this instance. Then as BLM, you can then merit Thunder Accuracy. As far as Stun goes, it seems to be either they out right resist it, or it lands. Dunno that Stun would really provide much benefit here, though I could be wrong. Just curious.

I haven't done either yet, tdh, and it's not really set in stone. I also do want it for Chainstun help, though, so I'll probably keep it that way.

Currently, I have the following merits:
4 Critical hit rate
4 Axe
3 Aggressor
3 Berserk

I'm kinda torn on what to merit next. I'm considering one of the following paths:
4th Bergressor upgrade (8 merit points), followed by 5th Bergressor upgrade (10 merit points)
Warrior's Charge (3 merit points)
4/4 Evasion, mainly for lvl 51 NIN (9 merit points)

I'm almost level 72 as BST. And some day, I'll want Beast Affinity and Call Beast timer merits. But that can wait, as I don't do a whole lot of end game stuff with jug pets.

Small correction; BLM can merit Thunder Magic Potency, not Accuracy.

Just started meriting not long ago, so the the list is embarrassingly short:

Convert: 3/5 (Done)
Enfeebling Magic: 1/8 (Target: 8)

Sword Skill (Target: 4) probably should be the next goal, to take a break from purely magely things, and to help my neglected Paladin. I'm leveling Blue Mage as well, so that seems like a good idea.
