do you only buy the spells you want? or do you have to buy a certain spell before you buy the spell you want?

do the prices of spells fluctuate depending on how many people are buying the spell?

I hear this, and I have an interesting question.

I'm a White Mage. Say I learn Cure, but forget to learn Cure 2 for some reason. Then I can learn Cure 3, and I buy the scroll. Would I be able to use Cure 3 without ever knowing Cure 2?
