Just incase new people think you can just show up and mess about in FFXI missions I said I'd type instructions here.:vent:

1.) Go too any FFXI web site look up the mission
2.) Pack accordingly (don't expect ppl too hand out potions)
3.) If you don't know about something ask
4.) if you missed out on something scroll up or ask ppl too repeat it
5.) Go over your role in the battle plan with the leader < B4 FIGHT>
6.) Gear doesn't need too be brilliant just make sure it's the right lvl
7.) LVL CAPPED AREA means your lvl is limited and you can't use that lvl 50 gear
8.) Optimise inventory space bring only what you need / could need

Anyone want too add something here go ahead I left lots out.. yea you can point out my bad spelling / grammer

I can do better, and sum it up in a single rule:

1. Stupid people, go play WoW.

Solves all problems.

There are two types of players in FFXI:

Those who can help themselves and those who can't.

Simple rule for any mission/event/party/et cetera...

Don't invite those incapable of higher thought.

I will gladly sacrifice my time, experience, gil, and patience helping people with anything they like given they know where to get help or how to ask.

I will also gladly watch mindless dimwits die horribly at the hands of countless prey and laugh.

I do not expect every new player to know every source of information. But I will gladly lead them in the right direction if they are to only ask. I expect them to do a bit of leg work (much like I had to do when completing all the missions); and given they show the initative I will help them with anything.

And no, stupid shouldn't play WoW, I need something to laugh at in whitegate >.>;

9. Learn the (major) spells for your job if you're playing a job with spells; then acquire them before continuing to party. Do not go into that level 40-42 party as a rdm40 with 500 tnl not having scroll of refresh on your person! Stop partying for a little while and get what you need.

I have a good rule.
Your sneak effect dosent just wear off in an instant. If your casting sneak on youself it will wear off. Your primary focus once you cast it is to watch for it to wear off.
You get 3 warnings:eek:   so the excuse of: "snk wore  " gets really old. Run back recast and catch up.

Actually you usually get 3 warning I have had sneak wear off just as the casting animation completed. Thankfully it isn't all the time, but I can attest from questing things as whm solo you do not always get them.

Under Rule #1 can't think how many times for the 2-3 dragon fight I've waited for the person to run back to town because they said they talked to the NPC only to discover it was the wrong NPC.

I've had the first warning appear as soon as I finish casting, but it's never worn off without getting 3 warnings first.

It's not common, but it has happened to me (Not to a friend of a cousin who heard it shouted in whitegate) and since I was still finishing the casting there wasn't a lot of information going through my chatlog for me to miss anything. I was caught between startlement and amusement. I re-read my chat log from the casting while casting again I verified I didn't miss a warning and did not already have sneak up. (I was going to the glacier for a teleport scroll mission at the time). Normally you will get the warnings, but not 100%

In fairness there is usually three warnings as mentioned even if they come rapidly.

1. /ma sneak <me>
2. watch for 3 warning messages
3. keep an eye out for safe sneak recasting points
4. follow instructions

You know all of these things don't only apply to new people. Note the above quote and apply this to sky and silent oils/prizm powders. I recently took the ls up to sky for farming and we split up. One of the groups went to get diorites. Well on the way there you need sneak so a few members neglected to bring oils. These were people who have been 75 for some time and done the sky farming many times. No new people in this group and yet they were acting like it. One guy wanted the mages to keep his sneak up and one poor soul tried and died for it. Another decided that he would just suck oils off anyone who would give them up. Some of them tried the "I don't have any gil" excuse. (Later one of them admitted to have 15k which is MORE than enough for oils.)
New players are learning and will make mistakes and this I can tolerate but when established players don't do something even though they know they should, then the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up! ><

You should probably add a new rule. Never let anyone like THIS lead your party:
