Well, I'm getting prepared for the FanFestival in Anaheim this year that'll be in less than 2 weeks or so. I got extra film in my camera for more footage and plenty of picture-snapping this year. As opposed to last year.

Also trying to whip up a video presentation for when I get the footage so I can spin it together as quick as I can and upload it for you all.

I initially planned to enter the FFXI FanFestival's Video Contest this year, but I ran pretty late--that, and I felt the rules were too strict this year as compared to last year--combined with the fact that they announced the rules so late before the deadline, it was quite crippling for me.

Nevertheless, I finished my video anyway.

If you'd like to see what I had planned to submit (But never got around to) go here.

The original video is available for download on my site. While a web-based one is mirrored on both YouTube.com and GameTrailers.com . YouTube doesn't really do it justice, though. You're better off with the original.

...

I hope you enjoy it.

And I'll be sure to get all the footage of "Dancer" and "Scholar" this year, plus take lots of pictures of people who are attending.

Some of you may recognize me IRL, so don't be afraid to stop and say hello, I'll be glad to see you!

The videos of this year's FanFest will be up on my site--I'll let you all know.

-- Let me know what you think of the video too, if you like.

I thought it was a lot of fun! Good luck in the contest.^^

Erm... I... Didn't make the deadline, though.

I posted my video on my site regardless of me not entering. I planned to, but didn't get around to it. lol....

Oh. Duh. I read your post too quickly. There's always next year?

Yeah. I just wish Square-Enix wouldn't wait 2 months to post the rules for the contest. That's what really screwed me up. I was originally planning on my video to be 6 minutes long approximately, then they just "spring" the 3 minute rule on me. So I had to do a lot of heavy editing, and most of my pre-planning went out the window. The best I could muster was a video that was approximately 4 minutes.

I felt kinda bad because I didn't make the deadline...

But at the same time, my friend cheered me up.

I don't need a contest to prove my self worth, there's plenty of other audiences to appeal to out there. The internet's a big place, and this video is just an inkling of what I'm capable of.

... That made me feel better.

But I'll still at least record all the footage I can of this year's FanFest, like I did last year.

That'll be cool to see.

I liked that your video wasn't conventional. So many of them are somber, with a lot of slow, uninteresting scenes. Yours was very fast paced, and used a lot of film techniques (the sped up crowds in Whitegate, the silhouettes, etc.)

Aye. I wanted to make a music video, rather than a "story set to music".

Interesting. What all did you record? I wonder if I'm in any of them.

Oddly enough, the only photos of fan fest I've seen myself in are ones my group took. Which is kinda odd because it was such a small space. I've seen plenty of photos where I was RIGHT outside the frame though (I could tell because of when it was taken)

There's pictures up on my website.

In the "Pictures" section. I originally released last year's video footage as a Bittorrent which is now defunct. I'm not sure how many people got it.

But I'll probably upload both this year's and last year's footage on both my website, and GameTrailers.com.

nope, not in any of them. Although I know I'm just out of the frame in one.

Cut out that ugly Elvaan and Mithra and you got a winner! D:

J/k, really awesome video. Nice upbeat song (with subtitiles!), nice flow of scenery, and everything seemed to match up as it played out. Didn't seem like some random fraps videos played to a song, but rather molded together.

Look forward to any future work you might do ^^/

There'll be plenty, no doubt.

There'll be plenty...

You did a good job on your video. I wish it could have been in the fan festival, I'm sure it would have won. :(
BTW, I heard that song some where before, but I don't remember where. Was it featured in some anime recently? I didn't look it up.

Sweet video.

And thanks for reminding me of Home made kazoku, I love them... brings back fanboyish memories. The homosexual ones.

The song is:

「少年ハート」 Shounen HAATO ("The Young Boy's Heart"), by the Japanese R&B / Rap group 「HOME MADE 家族」 Home Made Kazoku ("Home-Made Family").

You might remember it as the 2nd Season intro theme song to the anime Eureka 7. Check it out here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I579rH4Hdek

Home Made Kazoku has another one of their songs called 「サンキュウ!!」 SAN KYUU!! ("Thank You!!") appearing as the 2nd Season ending theme song to the anime Bleach.

Check it out here:

I like Home Made Kazoku because I grew up around a lot of rap music. Their style sounds very old-school hip-hop. And when I say "Old-School Hip-Hop", I'm talking mid to late 1980's to the early 90's... Back when we had bands like "Kid 'n' Play", "Kriss Kross", and others, and movies like the "House Party" series were still popular. I like the old-school rap. Not all this gangsta rap about shooting and stabbing people. Home Made Kazoku produces "Feel-Good Music", pretty much. In fact, the song for my video is basically saying "Do you remember how much fun you had when you were a little kid?", I was trying to play that into the fact how much fun we all had when FFXI was still somewhat new to us.

,,, Yeah. I probably could've won. I wasn't really... erm... "Impressed" by last year's competition.

But I can at least see who'll win this year, and see if I've been bested.

This video was just something I tried to piece together using alot of techniques I was not familiar with yet. This was the first time I used Adobe After Effects. So I know that with enough experience, I can devastate the competition next year.

Ah thanks! I remember watching Eureka 7, but it didn't hit me on what that song was. I need to start re-building my mp3 collection again. :( I lost it after a bad hard drive crash. :(

Yeah they do sound familiar from Bleach as well. I have that song for sure. ~Honto arigatou~
