Hello All,

I'd just like to say, SE will be coming out with more weapons, and I can't wait. I'm hoping that they use Scholar as an opportunity to bring out the Book. Two-handed?

Nope.By the way, Scholar’s mainly use Staves and Clubs, and the book is simply an effect generated through use of their abilities. They cannot attack with books as Scholars did in Final Fantasy III.

A two-handed book?

Evion

Yeah, two-handed... Can you see them holding a book in one hand and a shield in the other? Besides, how would they turn the page mid-battle?

Murphie

How would they beat monsters with a book? I mean, I know it's used in various games as a weapon, but if you're going to try and argue 2-handed over 1-handed for realism...

I imagine the animation would look very similar to the Dagger. Obviously, low damage. But, perhaps low delay as well...

I mean, I know it's used in various games as a weapon, but if you're going to try and argue 2-handed over 1-handed for realism...In FFT, the character would open it, utter some words, presumably reading from it, and that would damage the enemy. Oddly enough, you could only target things exactly three panels away, and come to think of it, I don't think Silence stopped you from attacking.

But realism means nothing. You could dual wield books in FFIII, and you'd smack mobs around with closed books no differently than you'd swing a dagger or sword. Of course, the damage was sucky.

I'd hit people with a book, but not one big enough to require two hands.

Dual wield Dictionary +1 and Thesaurus +1.

Of course it means nothing. But I mean, if Evion is going to argue realism when I question why he choose 2handed over 1, then I feel it's only right to point out that, hello, it's a book.

The books we see are obviously part of the JA or Spell animations, so I imagine that a currently in-game weapon will likely be their main way to melee.

Those corners can really hurt.

...why would SE create a new type of melee weapon for an obviously backline casting job?

If Dancer doesn't get a new weapon class, no job will.

2 handed books? hmm lets just hope it is a two handed book and not a single handed book, the double entendres that will start flying.....

Uh, I'd presume that Book was not a melee weapon and increased INT or MND or something...

In FFT, the character would open it, utter some words, presumably reading from it, and that would damage the enemy.

Or this...

That's not how you hit someone with a Book, you need a nice over head swing.

Either that or you use them as ranged ammunition and equip a satchel as your ranged weapon then use an animation similar to other throwing weapons.

Not a "meant for doing good damage" weapon. His point is that Dancer, which is actually meant to be in the front lines and hit things, does not get a new weapon class, so it'd be asinine to make a new weapon for a backline mage job.

They could just have the book equipable in sub catagory and make it scholar exclusive. That way you could actually see the book without having him use it as a weapon, which i think would be full on retarded. What would the weaponskills be. Binder bash? Papercut?

My guess is that it will be a Ranged item, similar to Bard Instruments.

...the books Scholars use aren't weapons but part of their JA animations. They use the ability, the book appears in front of them, opens up and disappears. That's not even debatible because people have seen the videos of this happening.

Boom. Away discussions about how they use a freaking book. Corsair's don't throw blackjack cards at mobs do they now

On a side note, like SE said in interviews ages ago, they find it hard to introduce new weapons to the game because of the limitations on PS2 memory.

Taken from SE's site.

With the musings and records of a hundred years of scholars crammed between its covers, the grimoire had exceeded its original definition as a tactician's manual, and developed into an encyclopedic source of knowledge. The task of memorizing its contents had become a mammoth task for any aspiring scholar, which defeated the Schultz philosophy of practicality and utility. The person to solve this dilemma was none other than Gunther Schultz II, direct descendant of the famous martial theorist himself. Schultz empowered the grimoire with astral properties, enabling the scholar to command the book to disappear and reappear at will. This allowed proponents of the Schultz school to consult the grimoire at any time, significantly expanding their realm of movement. This flexibility would prove invaluable in the time of the Crystal War...

Says about the book been able to appear and disappear at the SCH's will so maybe there will be a Book weapon for SCH.

Also could be a Ammo type thing

Flay people with the sharp edges of magically propelled pages from your book, R.O.D.-style.

I thought all books would be 2-handed, except for the one with the naked mithra in it.

The book appears/disappears when you use JAs. That is all. We are not getting books as a weapon.

Probs right but no one knows til release
I been watching some SCH Vids and it shows the book as the JA so probs won't be a weapon as all the SCHs seem to be using Light Staff

It would be cool to have a book as a reusable throwing weapon. Unlikely to happen, but cool if it did.

I'm not sure whether it's amusing or sad to see people actually contriving to read flavor that clearly spells out that this is not a physical thing we need to keep on our person as suggesting exactly the opposite because they so thoroughly want it to be the case...

The Grimoire is a Key Item. It is obtained when you complete the SCH flag quest. The description clearly states that due to astral properties it manifests at the user's whim.

I think they should introduce the book like the brd's instrument, it can enhance spells or JA for SCH's i mean a book for a main weapon seem's kinda crappy.
