View Full Version : Will we ever see an epic, long story, in the vein of Chains of Promathia?

I loved the Chains of Promathia storyline, and how it played out. Not only in chapters, but it had a very deep storyline, had a good challenge to it, and was very long.

Treasures of Aht Urhgan had a good, but felt a bit rushed in my opinion, and was also very easy.

I would just like to know if we can expect Chains of Promathia style storytelling, mixed with a good challenge, in Wings of the goddess, or future expansion packs.

I liked the ToAU storyline a lot. I suppose it wasn't on the grand scale that the CoP story was, but in my opinion the CoP story had a lot of filler that it didn't need. There were almost too many characters and motivations tossed into the CoP plotlines. The ToAU story kept it simple and focused only on the three or four characters that mattered. Along with that, the Assault and Serpentgeneral quests really added depth to ToAU.

As far as epicness, I think WotG will deliver. Granted, there's bound to be some letdown because the battles can't live up to everyone's expectaions. Overall though, I expect it to be on par with the better storylines so far.

To me the story felt a bit rushed.

SPOILERS!!!

- One minute Gessho is good, then bad, then good

- One minute someones talking behind a curtain to us, next you are protecting that person who sounds evil but is really good.

- One minute the story is about Luzaf becoming the next Odin, the next its about the Odin and Alexanders fight.

The COP story was very deep. It went into the stories of each of those characters, so you could actually care about them, and what they are going through. In TAU I didn't really care for Nashmeira/Aphmau, Luzaf, Rahzfad, etc...

The main thing about COP was, you weren't gaurenteed to win any of the fights. They sometimes required multiple tries, and when you finally won, you had reason to shout with the typical WOOT's, and YAY's. In TAU everytime I finished one of the about 7-8 fights in TAU, it meant nothing. Why? Because it wasn't even a challenge. Heck one day my static was short a couple members, we ent ahead and tried a fight, and won without breaking a sweat. I want challenging storyline fights in the vein of COP so I can actually feel like I earned a victory.

Another thing about COP is there were more explorable zones. In TAU, Wajaom, Aydeewa, Arrapago, Mt. Zhayolm, Halvung, Mamook, Caedarva, Bhaflau, were the only fully explorable zones out of 30. Alzadaal I would call explorable but there's hardly anything in it, except for paths to the remnant zones. Worst of all there was no final zone where the final boss resided in. Every FF has a final dungeon, and to me Sky and Sea wasn't about Gods, and Jailers. They were about the discovery of the final dungeons where the last bosses held their ground.

In all I hope WOG offers -

- An epic - LONG - storyline with more then 8 fights (like TAU had.) COP had between 10-20 BC fights, 3 BC fights in the first chapter alone.

- A final zone where the last boss resides, and you have to work to get access to.

- more fully explorable zones.

- and after seeing pics of WOG, I hope to god of the 30 new zones, more are new, then past versions of zones we've already traversed.

- finally for the BC fights to be hard enough that the biggest reward is just beating them, like COP.

I believe SE is trying to avoid infringing on the casual players with BCNM battles that are too difficult without an ideal party setup or merited players with the best gear. It gets much harder at Lv75 to make battles which are hard enough for the most dedicated players while being easy enough for casual players.

However, I think SE found a solution when they started tweaking CoP. The farmable items make a large enough difference to grant normal party setups the ability to successfully complete missions which would otherwise require a special setup.

Still I've yet to complete much of ZM, CoP, or ToAU due to time constraints which prevent me from finding a group. The stories really suck when you complete one part every few months. I'm looking forward to a compilation of the cutscenes.

ToAU felt, to me, too rushed. The first missions introduced with the expansion were a joke (I recall at one time someone on QCDN was making a ToAU static before the expansion came out, they were expecting horrendous battles that would require tremendous amounts of effort...lol), and the meat of the story felt crammed into the last two sets of missions.
I've been enjoying playing through CoP these past few months, and it made me wonder why ToAU didn't at least attempt to reach the bar CoP had set.
