View Full Version : What tweaks can Thf look forward to?

Overall, Thf's last boosts(outside of the merit 2 categories) was the addition of Assassin and the boost to dagger's base damage. Since the implement of the bonuses for two handed users, thief as a main job has been over shadowed in areas outside of being a Treasure Hunter II + Thief’s Knife + Assassin's Armlets. What I'm asking, what concepts or additions to the job can we look forward too? Majority of our party friendly abilities can easily be done with a sam, war and drk main jobs using Trick Attack with their best damaging weapon skill of choice. Those alone easily overshadow Thief as a main job and in a sense it's identity for a main job.
Would there be possible tweaks to up the damage of daggers even more?
Or add a Dagger Mastery trait that grants a bonus to enmity and adds a bonus to AGI for base damage and dagger weapon skill modifiers when Trick Attack is used successfully? Maybe throw in a job ability that triples the damage dealt per hit when Triple Attack or Assassin's Charge kicks in?
Overall gear offered for thf in end game, is not a broad as other jobs in terms of versatility or relative ease for obtaining. Most noticeable are the AF, relic, Dragon Harness Set, Hecatomb, Homan and Skadi Leather Armor sets. Commonly used armor not in sets many thieves wear as follows, Optical Hat, Rapparee Harness and Scorpion Harness. Will there be plans to implement more thief exclusive sets that'll more or less allow diversity of the options players may use?
In terms of thief's subjob options, its watered down to ninja by the majority of the community. Will there be more or less changes to how thief holds evasion to make it more easily open to accept subjobs that doesn't offer utsusemi and dual weild? Such as a trait to parry if the thief fails to evade or an evasion system similar to the change that made shields the way they are.
As a thief, I look forward to what changes and tweaks you may have in store for us in the future.

YOu'll get something whebn SE overhaul all 18 jobs to balance out the omgwtfbbq(notkitten) they seem to be planning with WoTG jobs.

I don't think the fix-all to all jobs is simply adding more damage. Not all jobs are meant to excel at damage output, gotta live with it.
Think about it, they boost THF's dmg, then the other jobs want more DMG too because THF's are outdamaging them in X and Y situation.
Easy to spot the endless circle of doom...
Should really focus on the enmity thing. I wonder if that helps much in endgame though...

Personally I'd like to see THF get some more money making abilities and not just combat.

IIRC, that's what a lot of player speculation was with the new ToAU jobs. "SE will balance out all of the existing jobs once the 3 new ToAU jobs are complete with relic yada yada yada."
So I don't see the introduction of the WotG jobs being any different. Several months down the road, SE will decide to spin the wheel of which-job(s)-gets-the-next-big-boost.
Why even bother asking this question? SE went into incredibly detailed plans for the future of jobs at the last fan fest, I doubt they wouldn't at least give us a taste this time. And who's to say SE isn't happy with the way THF is now?

That'll only make more gil for RMT, if you haven't noticed, RMT jobs of choice are thf, whm, blm and nin. Thf obvilously for TH, steal, mug and gilfinder. So that'll only make it easier for them to farm up gil.

QFT. I'd die to a shallow grave out of the joy of getting something like that.

I fear its looking like that now.

Its starting to look like we're the new bst & drg on SE loving though ;-;
Just want to know where we stand with them, that so bad to ask?

Last night leveling NIN (after leveling DRK for a while) I realized how gimped 1 handed weapons are compared to 2-handed.
With the same gear on and same food the difference was like +50 att and acc (eyeballed numbers of course), seriously WTH, and if you factor daggers are even weaker than Katanas then you should see the problem here. >.<
Really, I'm thinking about just skill up'ng Great Katana and use that for the last 2+ lvls I'm planing on leveling NIN, At lvl 40 the difference between Katana and GK skill rating is a laughable 9 points (123 vs 114), which is more than negligible considering the stat boost you gain from the 2-handed change + grips.
I mean, I'm glad about the 2 handed upgrade, but when a job is so much better off using a C ranked weapon than using their A+ weapon then something must be broken somewhere. o.O

...you do realize THFs use a C ranked weapon all the way to 33 and have since the beginning, right? :P

you do realize weapon ratings only differ by a few points from 1-33 right?

Swords yup. Even at 75, good acc and triple/double attack gear, there really isn't much difference between a 215(with suppa) Sword vs a 272 Dagger, but toss that to a competition to a two handed weapon, its widdles down to the raw power verses the gained. Course, it takes a strong STR and ACC build to make thf/war or drk or blu or pld to even make worth while enough number to use Vorpal Blade.
Marksmanship. Eyeballing it on average, against Tough and higher mobs, about 60% of all shots hit. Against Dynamis mobs, 75% of all shots hit. Playing with /rng(even though its completely gimp in level...) Slug Shot is certainly tastey to use. But more bolt options would also be nice, espically those holy bolts.
Archery, never bother to leveled it after hitting 25 seeing how tasty Bloody bolts became ;3 So.. if anyone got opinions please state.
If you want to talk about broken, try drk/blu using Soul Eater with near 100+ blue spells, 30-90 Head Butts with a 90% unresist rate. Still yummy though.

SE did say there would be a large overhaul of job balance just prior to wings. I forget where, but it was either in a 1UP interview or on their website... maybe it was BG? I honestly can't remember where I read it.
SE also said at fan fest that every job would be balanced at TAU release.

This reminds me of a poster who said they remember SE saying that they promised new summons would be added in ToAU, though they couldn't remember where. They finally beck pedaled to the point where they posted a scrap of info where SE said they were hoping to try and add a new summon. There's quite a gap between "promise" and "we'll do our best".
Not that it really matters what SE "promises". WotG is now less than a month away. Think SE will do a large overhaul over all existing jobs within the next 3 and a half weeks?

No, but I'm betting the last few updates were it, or at least most if it. PUP BST and COR got those major updates, along with the 2 handed update.
RMT aside, I still think the money making job of the game could stand to get a little better at it. You guys can't seriously tell me you wouldn't like having TH3 or Gil Finder 2.

TH3 = TH2 + Relic hands or Thf knife. Drop increases, barely noticeable in my eyes.
Gilfinder 2, Relic legs. No difference.
A marginal difference for Mug with Relic hat if you were gonna ask that next.
Honestly, what I used to spend my time farming, that still put me a head of what i made after subtracting the costs from using bloody bolts + signal/tactics pearl + shihei, just barely makes ends meet. I can't craft cause nothing I find appeals to make for 1 myself or 2 to sell. Woodworking at the stage I'm at can do bolts, but those bolt heads are just too out of the spending range for me. But this is for another thread. End all is, I'd highly doubt they'll give us a boost to TH, seeing how they don't tell us how it works exactly and all we know is theory, and Gilfinder just means gil farming.

I love how people say that gear = TH3.
How do you figure a measely 2% increase to be TH3?
Akashimo

Cause its all we got. Relic is pure luck <.<; never saw the hands drop yet.
Knife is a must if you are to call yourself a thief.
Plus people are still superstitious...
1) Gotten tells to make the final blow
2) Forced to make the final blow on nms
3) People think there is alliance hate on certian sac pulls >.>;
I can go on for related and unrelated, but i'm not.

All we know from SE that's official info on TH is the THF must be present in the party in the area at the time of the kill.

But people will still choice to believe in the superstitutions, espically the ones that want the final blow by a thf.

From now on you'll be dealing the final blow on any NM we are hunting, I don't care if you are a PLD or a MNK at the time. (^-^)b
