After alot of time in WoW / other MMO's Me and my brother have decided to come back to FFXI until the servers are turned off. I have read all the changes since we left , and I am excited to start leveling my PLD again. I don't remember what server we left off in but I hope to become a active member in this community. See you all in game :)

This is an active community... if you'd like to be active with more of them in-game, try Kujata server. It seems to be the most popular round' here. Wait, servers turned off? What do you mean by that? Until SE shuts FFXI down? I don't think that'll happen anytime soon. They're coming out with another expansion soon.

There are actually a fair number of players here from many different servers, Evion. Kujata is one of the more popular ones of late, due to the DiV LS, which the OP is welcome to join if he would like.

The servers likely won't be turned off for many years.

By the way, how long have you been gone? There have been MANY changes this past year, and PLD mentality and playstyle has also changed greatly. Mainly, it's no longer about putting on as much VIT and Defense as you can.

Welcome back to the game. :] I recently just started playing again too, and I'm thinking I'll play for a quite a while.

There's space for you and your brother on Midgardsormr if you'd like to join. ^^ I have an awesome social you can join, but if you're pretty much starting over...I think Kujata would be a good place to go as well, to join up with Sevv, Mhurron and Murphie.

Have fun playing again, and see you around maybe. :D

That's correct. There is a great diversity of different servers here. It's just that Kujata members seem to be more prominent posters round' here...

Awesome, Im the said brother of Bigwall and I am really excited to play again. There is no game I would rather spend time on after all these years since the North American Release. I can't remember the server we are on either but I am willing to move after the quick and kind responses this post has generated.

The registration servers are down currently ( I keep trying ) so we have to wait before we can start the long update so we wont be online till probably later in the evening. We will let you guys know what server we have decided on so that we can get into the mix again. I myself am think about leveling RDM and THF as my main classes due to thier utility and solo ability in later levels. I cant wait to play I can hardly contain myself.

If you are looking for solo, THF is probably behind RDM/NIN/BST/DRK. Anway, if you come to Hades, I'll PL you to lv 10 and then jump in an XP pt with you with one of my lv 10 jobs...

DRK isn't very good at soloing. Anyways, lots of jobs can solo, but under different conditions and for different goals. DRG and BST can solo for EXP any time, anywhere. SMN and BLM can solo for EXP decently enough by going after mob pets. PLD, RDM, and THF can solo big things at high levels, but generally not for EXP. I've heard BLUs can solo for EXP at 75 as well. NIN becomes good at soloing from 37-40. PUP can solo too, though I'm not all too familiar with them.

Yeah... WHM can solo from 1-10... But lets have some sort of standard for what "soloing" is.

Murphie

Killing mobs without any assistance.

Then I guess all jobs CAN solo, therefore every job is a solo job? Well, my definition of a job that can solo is one that "consistently" kill mobs at it's own level from 1-75...

Armando

I loosely define it as:
1. The ability to get EXP on your own at a decent rate.
2. The ability to perform an EXP chain of 2+ on your own.
3. The ability to kill something on your own that most other jobs can't kill without excessive use of meds.

Lol I think we all have a general understanding about what soloing is but I agree with Armando when he says there are different reasons for soloing. I enjoy being able to solo and explore different areas (fight a lot of different kinds of mobs) and to make money, which can be viewed as two separate goals each with a different approach.

The reason I am leaning toward Thf and Rdm is that I believe they offer those two things; to make money / get supplies (thf) and to explore and defeat all sorts of mobs (rdm). Bst is much better for soloing xp, which I am not really fond of. I still prefer a group setting for xp but would like the option when there is no one around to do my own thing.

I would still like your guys' input as to if this is a good plan (am I spreading myself out too much?) and any advice you want to give. Thank you very much for all your replies so far

It doesn't sound like you're spreading yourself too thin at all. It's not a race, so you have all the time in the world to level any job you might take a fancy to.

Then I guess all jobs CAN solo, therefore every job is a solo job? Well, my definition of a job that can solo is one that "consistently" kill mobs at it's own level from 1-75...Why are you intentionally being ignorant? Is it for fun, or is it just the way you're feeling today?

Armando's definition is correct. But yes, every job CAN solo. Just not all the time, and not at all levels. If you want to talk about consistently leveling for EXP without any outside assistance, then yeah, that narrows the field. But most people already understand what we're talking about. You're the one that wanted to nitpick.

Well, after returning to an empty linkshell it seems my brother and I are going to move to Kujata. Our characters aren't very high however we have completed enough quests/missions to not want to do them again. My highest is a 17 warrior (death warped after sub-job completion) and I am currently leveling Thief.

PM us in game, my name is Japairish and my brother's is Bigwall. Hope to see you all there!
