My poor Japanese would not enable me to fully understand the text, but via translator, I grasp some of the gist of the message.

Thought some of you might remember him and wish to know:

:( Say it ain't so!

Google Translate suggests something about him perhaps taking a new job (maybe having to move out of the country?) which is causing him to basically retire and close the blog. I can't puzzle out any more of the message though.

Any Japanese speakers want to take a stab at it?

Main points to cover;

1. His blog is closing this month.
2. He will seldom be playing FFXI. (Doesn't say he'll completely retire.)
3. Brought a fresh young man/woman (possibly his RL friend) from another server for Ballista.
4. He's currently searching for a new job through recruitment agent.
5. Once he's settled with the new job, maybe he'll spawn in Ballista out of nowhere.

If Apple Pie happens to see this,

お疲れ様でした ('∇') 転職活動頑張ってくださいね

Again: Who?

That list is hardly accurate.

You know Studio Gobli, right? The group of Japanese players that figured out: the normal damage formula; WS formula and their modifiers; mob stats; the spell/magic WS damage formula; and TP gain formula (among many other things)?

Apple Pie was practically the first person to translate and explain to the NA community how the damage and WS formulas work. It's pretty much thanks to him that I know as much about the game as I do.

Edit: He's also a great RDM and a Ballista nut that loves going RDM/RNG for Sidewinders. And he also brought to our attention the formulas for other things such as Enspell damage and Slow. You could say he's like the precursor to VZX.

Edit 2: Here's a real treat for you old-timers. Let's warp back to 2004 with "Weapon Skill Data, Formulae and Testing." (http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/race-job-type-q/42111-weapon-skill-data-formulae-testing.html) This is when it all started for my FFXI math career ;o

honestly I don't give much of a damn about individual players, or even really LS for that matter.

Wow, Feba.

I can't believe you said that.

My list IS accurate.
------------------------------------------
But on another note, Grendal is probably the reason I'm the RDM I am today. Had it not been for his guidance through my newb days and his tolerating my stupid questions every time I talked to him, I probably wouldn't be half the player I am.

Trying to be better than Grendal is the reason I'm still playing RDM with the passion that I do.

I'll send him a message and hopefully he'll be able to pop into the forum and talk to us for old times sake.
------------------------------------------
Ok, I sent him a message asking him to at least stop by and say farewell.

then quit asking who? who? if you dont really give a shit.

I am really not that epic. I don't even know what it means. I mean, I know what epic means, but I don't know what it means with regards to me.

I wanted to put "Murphie has the best One Liners", but that was way too long.

It's only one line.

No way I was giving Murphie more words in my sig than Omni.

Murphie has one liners.

Though...that doesn't really make much sense. Murphie says it with less? Still more words than Omni.

You should give Omni more words to make this easier!

Murphie hates Raydeus?

I'm going to use GIMP to make a pic of the sig, because I tried including someone new in it and I'm at the character cap. ; ;

Back on topic, folks! *shakes moderator's fist*

Apple Pie holds a very special place in the hearts of long-time FFXI players, particularly those of us who were playing as far back as the North American beta or even importing the JP version previously. He's one of the most knowledgeable players about the game when it comes to game mechanics, and he knows the numbers like the back of his hand. Frankly, he's probably forgotten more about FFXI than I've ever learned, and that says a lot considering I've been playing FFXI for over four years now.

We love you, Grendal-san! Don't go away! :(

thank you bside-san for the quick translation. :handsdown

well, at least it gives us some hope to see grendal-san again someday. I know switching jobs can be a pain in the ass so I can definitely see where he is coming from; i've done the same myself.

WishMaster3K

Grendal-san is a great person. I wouldn't have my Joyeuse without his help.. ; ;

Well for all intents and purposes, his absence is the reason so many of us around here are so good at being RDMs and contributors to the community in the first place, being as how we all had to step up and fill the void.

In fact, every time I go to Castle Zvahl and farm drops that i'll just end up NPCing, I remember who told us about it in the first place, lol.

God damnit, those Demon DRKs still hit like trains.

Well it's ok if you don't know Apple Pie. But at least please show some respect. If there's someone in this game who deserves it, Apple Pie it is.

Hehe, I have been playing AoEIII lately and when I saw that I though of the Mortaru, i.e. the main Japanese siege weapon.

VERY VERY Very well said Icemage, I learn from you guys as much as I learned from Apple Pie. But there was more from him, his exploration on the boundary of a job - rdm had brought us very good memory in this forum. Apple Pie can be very persistent, to develop rational approach upon gameplay mechanics, yet he delivered it smoothly via his video recording and skillful play ^^)b.

Thanks for the translation! Now, I am a bit relief, I regular visit his blog so I am panicked when I read something like that =P

I was plenty respectful. I asked who he was instead of just dismissing the thread.

Unless you're expecting me to grovel and worship him, I'm not sure what you want.

BurningPanther

You might have been better off dismissing the thread.

At any rate, it's good to know that Apple Pie isn't leaving the game entirely. While I never benefited for his wisdom as directly as some of the other forum-goers, I'm not ignorant to the fact that his insight into RDM shaped the way we play.

I am really not that epic. I don't even know what it means. I mean, I know what epic means, but I don't know what it means with regards to me.

You'll find out in your unauthorized biography. :thumbsup:

PS > I don't know who ApplePie is either, but it seems like he did a lot for the NA community.

Edit > And yeah I totally missed this thread 'till now. <_<;
