hey all, I'm coming back but I've no longer got my disks or anything.
I've got 3 options as far as I can see.

go to the local EB and grab that starter pack then add keys and download the expansions.

Buy the 2007 bundle from the USA for $20 then add about $33 for shipping.

Or I could go grab the disc's from a friend of mine on the other side of town and install then buy content ID's etc. but at least not have to do extra downloading.

I can't find how much I'd be paying for the content ID's and registration codes though. cause if it's cheaper I'd rather just wait the week and get the whole bundle from the US.

any help would be much appreciated.

The prices for expansion packs registration codes: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/PlayOnline_Launches_Expansion_Pack_Registration_Co de_Sales%21_%2807-23-2007%29

Keep in mind, though, it does not include the code for the game itself. =/

Edit:
EU version of the info, straight from S-E:
http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/topics/optional/regist.html
I believe it says the Starter Pack contains all the data from the expansion packs, but not the registration codes for them, but EU customers can purchase the codes online. Australia probably falls under "EU" for S-E's purpose, so that's likely the most relevant link for you.

Only thing I can say: Don't let downloading/installation times play a factor in your decision. Any way, you'll still be watching it 3-5 hours... Also, I'd go the way that would get me started the fastest, even if it cost a couple extra bucks.
