Ok right now I am a level 70 BLU and I find myself having trouble with the BLU G5. My friends tell me to level another job to 66 to do G5 with but with my second highest job being 37 WHM and NIN that's not really an option. I managed to get a test (first kill... go figure) as a 66 BLU, and being ignorant and thinking the tests drop like candy (again cause I got it on the first kill) I thought I'd give it a shot at level 66 even though I was sure I'd lose. Well that didn't go so well as expected and I only managed to get him to about 35-40% HP. Once I hit 70 I went and got another test which took about two hours, only to fail again ; ;. I had him down to 12% HP then he Magic Fruited up to 40% and then killed me /sigh. Now after a whole 5 days of straight farming another test (yes you heard me... and that's at least 6 hours each day, more on some), I'm getting ready to attempt it a third time. I have three questions.

1) Is silencing via Chaotic Eye not an option or something? I never see anyone try it but I'm not sure if it's because it doesn't, no one has risked wasting the cast time, or if it makes it harder (less spell casting = more sword hits and his sword hits for like 130-260 x.x)
2) Is sleeping not an option? BLU has many ways to sleep but again I'm not sure if no one uses this because of trouble with it sticking or if it's too hard to pull off midfight. If it were possible (I know when I solo mimickers for my test I can Head Butt them and quickly pull off a Pinecone Bomb while they're stunned), it would provide a safe period of time to fully heal and use some MP restoring items and possibly even rebuff.
3) Will someone please give me some advice? (other than what I'm about to say)

My equipment for Raubahn:
Main: Msk. Cmd. Falchion (for the acc, tell me if Ifrit's would be better)
Sub: None (imo any shields out there that aren't way too expensive aren't worth bothering with)
Ammo: Tiphia Sting
Head: AF
Neck: Chiv Chain
Ear1: Antivenom
Ear2: Insomnia
Body: AF
Hand: Pallas' Bracelets
Ring1: Rajas (wheee just got it the other day ^^)
Ring2: Garrulous
Back: Amemet +1
Waist: Potent belt
Legs: AF
Feet: AF

I go in, use sushi, then cast Stoneskin, Zephyr Mantle, and Refueling. I then switch to my Dark staff and rest MP. Then I get up, use an icarus wing, BA + Frost Breath to pull with. 2hr, CA, Hysteric Barrage, Head Butt, Frenetic Rip, Head butt, and cast any other DD spells after that with Head Butt when it's up.

So please, any advice would be welcome.

This has been talked about before here. (http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/blue-mage/64378-blue-mage-test.html)

Hope that answers some questions.

No that doesn't help me whatsoever. What they talk about on there (I've read it many times) is basically what I've been doing. Also, most of those posts in that thread are just people saying what they did, but they lost. Doesn't solve my problem.

Also, I just tried it and lost again... this time was the worst. Only got him down to 51% because for some reason my single hit DD spells decided to do 27 damage -.- (Death Scissors and Dimensional Death).

First off, yes, Ifrit's Blade would be better. That sword wins for such a long time.

Drop Tiphia Sting. The HP and Evasion penalties aren't worth the increase in Attack and Accuracy for a solo fight. Grab a Bibiki Seashell, or even a Rogetsurin, if possible, but don't use any gear that have penalties (this goes for those Gigas' Bracelet line stuff you're listing, drop those too). Gear with stat penalties = bad juju in a solo fight of this magnitude.

AF hat is ok, but I'd go Optical Hat (if you have it; if not, get it!). The Eva and Acc bonuses are great.

Drop Bracelet, get Fencing Bracers if you can. They're great for solo and party play; they're just great all around. +HP, +Acc, and +Eva is hard to come by in that slot, and better stats won't be seen until the high 70s (like Dusk, Homam, Morrigan, etc).

AF body, legs, and feet are great, and don't underestimate them. Those defensive stats on the lower body could make or break your fight with this setup. It's nice the AF body looks so cool; you'll be using it all the way to 75 and beyond (very few jobs can boast that about their NQ AF).

Everything else is good to go as far as you've listed it. A shield won't matter much anyways; BLU has no native shield skill, so I doubt it'd even proc once without an appropriate SJ to give skill. That being said, go for a shield that gives MP or elemental resistance, cuz that's all that slot would be good for.

As far as strategy, I've never done this fight, so I couldn't give any details, but some suggestions would be the staple spells: Head Butt, of course, and a lot of the ones you listed are good. I'd try Sprout Smack for some slow, and Sandspin to help your evasion build a bit. Cocoon is almost paramount with the numbers you're listing as his damage. Refuling is standard.

Other than that, it's up to you and your play style. Good Luck.

Not an option sadly. That requires help, of which I have none until I can get into an endgame LS (that doesn't suck) which I can't because no one wants a level 70 capped BLU >.>

Head Butt, great. Sprout Smack, activation time, cast time, and cooldown time (before you can cast another spell) outweigh the overall slow in a battle of this speed really... if I could cast shadows then yes it'd be worth it (or Pinecone bomb but I'm not risking that until I get a confirmation that it will work). Those damage numbers I listed are WITH Cocoon and the +7 VIT from the Enchantment on Memento Muffler.

Ok, SE needs to fix this fight. I just (miraculously) got a test drop first kill on a Mimicker, and went to do the fight again. He swung at me a few times, casted Smite of Rage.... then did 1000 Needles... in like 2 second cast time. This fight is so ridiculously unfair it's sickening.

The entire casting of Sprout Smack (from activiation to cooldown) is less than a second, and is definately worth the cost. Just pop it off between his hits, and everything else becomes easier to work with. Set up Frightful Roar with Head Butt too; the DEF Down debuff really extends your damage out by quite a bit.

There's nothing to gain by waiting around; just try it. It's not like you're doing anything else until you beat him, so it's not like it's important you beat him immediately. Everyone has had to deal with 70 cap, so it's not like you're the first or anything, and yes, I had problems with my Maat fight the first time I went in, so you're not alone in your frustration. Just take your time, think your strategy through, don't panic during the fight, and you'll eventually win.

That would be the key to this fight >.> and it is something I overlooked (oddly enough cause I use it ALL the time while soloing and partying). The def down on it is huge (25% I believe?) AND it overwrites Cocoon. Therefore solving my problem of getting rid of his Cocoon without having to get past his Stoneskin and Haste first >.>

Yeah that spell list definately isn't possible... too many points.
------------------------------------------
Woohoo ^^ I won! Not to mention beat the record by 2 minutes lol.

Equipment:
Ifrit's Blade
Bibiki Seashell
Magus keffiyeh
Chivalrous Chain
Insomnia earring
Antivenom earring
Magus Jubbah
Pallas's bracelets
Rajas ring
Garrulous ring
Amemet mantle +1
Potent belt
Magus shalwar
Magus charuqs

Food/meds:
Tavnazian taco
+7 VIT from memento muffler enchantment
Reraise from reraise earring
Icarus wing (forgot to use lol)
5 Hi-ethers
2 Hi-potions
2 Echo drops

What I did:
I went in, immediately used my reraise earring and memento muffler (equipped them outside) then switched back to my fighting gear. I casted Refueling first because it lasts the longest, followed by Metallic Body and Zephyr mantle. After that I popped one Hi-ether then switched to Dark Staff and rested up to full HP/MP (hp was down a bit because of the earring swap). I got up, casted Cocoon and pulled Raubahn with Burst Affinity + Frost Breath (290). I then ran up to him and started casting Frightful Roar to get rid of his Cocoon + lower is defense further, but I had not stopped moving on the server side I guess because my casting got interrupted...so I waited until I could recast and then did so. Immediately afterwards I realized that I had forgotten to use my icarus wing >.<, so I casted Head Butt (86) to stall for time, then I hit my CA + AL macro anyway and just casted Hysteric Barrage (651). Raubahn then decided to be very evil and casted Radiant Breath on me and I didn't notice he had so I tried to cast Head Butt, it failed, so I popped an echo drop then casted Head Butt (88) to stall for more time. After that I hurried and casted Frenetic Rip (335) and Sickle Slash (322) to end it. Throughout the fight my sword hits did the following damages in order: (46+19), (57), (95!), (44). Additional damage from Ifrit's blade shown with a "+" and criticals shown with a "!".

Not to burst your bubble, but isn't every record reset after an update/ maintenance? >.>

Congratz!

Yes, records are reset upon a set schedule, but it's always nice to see "You have broken the record by XYZ time!" after a BC, yanno?

Yeah, Frightful Roar certainly helped out, and it was amusing to see you stumble a bit, but be able to recover there. It's those little things that can trip you up, but it's all good.

By an inch or a mile, a win's a win!

Yeah records reset every Sunday but I did this on Friday so... at least a few people had done it between last Sunday and then. I personally know of two that did it (one of my friends beat it by reraising and finishing him off lol... his time was 9:49) + the person who had the record when I beat it. Anyway, who cares about the record =p

STRATEGY: First, let me thank those that came before me with their suggestions and information about blue G5 fight.
My Blue Mage is my highest job and after reading about this fight I was nervous as hell. It took me over a week to farm my blue test and I was terrified of losing the fight and having to farm another. So I took 3 days to do some testing and formulated this strategy. It worked Flawlessly and I have since had 2 friends use it with similar effect. All 3 of us came out of the fight with over 700HP and 100+MP. All 3 of us were different races (Mithra, Galka, Elvaan).

NOTE: The gear we used is somewhat more expensive, but depending on your race it is not needed to succeed. Galka will in fact need to compensate for their low MP, and +accuracy and +Evasion gear is critical. All other gear especially weapons is alterable and I believe will still =WIN.

From what I've read blue G5 fight should be done on ICEDAY. Everyone I've had use this has done the same.

First--before zoning through second door equip a Dark Staff to maximize MP while resting. Take off all other gear (This is not confirmed that Raubahn has your stats upon entering but Im a man who doesnt take risks so I went in naked).

Second--Equip the following spells: Refueling, Frenetic Rip, Sickle Slash, Death Scissors, Frost Breath, and Diamondhide.

Third--Eat a Jack-o-lantern food (found under vegetables) Gives +10Acc+10 eva

Next trade your testimony to the second door.

After getting past cutscene it is vital to understand that every action from now till you enter combat must be done seamlessly and with as much speed as possible. I highly recommend practicing this routine on lesser colibri as the full spell list WITOUT using Azure Lore will nearly kill them and you can practice often with no risk.

After Cutscene drink a Hi-Reraiser(optional) and a Persikos Au Lait. The hi-Reraiser is in case you do get killed yet he's a sliver of life away from dying. You can reraise and hit him with a big spell or 2 before you go down again. From what I've seen of this strategy you wont need it.

After drinking your Persikos Au Lait buff with Refueling and Diamondhide then immediately sit down and start resting MP. You now have 4 minutes until diamondhide wears off.

While sitting, access your blue spell list and REMOVE Refueling and Diamondhide. ADD Hysteric Barrage, Warm-Up, Zephyr Mantle, Dimensional Death, Frightful Roar, Feather Barrier, cocoon, and Headbutt. Leave the spell list as quick as possible to start casting count down.

Now equip all your gear except your weapon so you can keep the dark staff on for faster MP regen. Once your MP is full swap to your sword and stand up...

Drink Icarus Wing and yagudo drink....

Buff with Zephyr Mantle and then Warm-Up

Drink 1 Hi-Ether

Run to just past the center of the water and target Raubahn then draw your weapon.

Cast Cocoon then immediately start your combat macros (Below)

****From this point on I recommend making the following macros to maximize speed of casting

Macro#1=Pull macro
/ja "Magic Burst" <me>
/wait 3
/ma "Frost Breath" <t>

Macro#2
/ma "Feather Barrier" <me>

Macro#3
/ma "Frightful Roar" <t>
/wait 6
/ja "Azure Lore" <me>
/wait 3
/ma "Head Butt" <t>

Macro#4=Nuke 1
/ma "Death Scissors" <t>
/wait 4
/ma "Frenetic Rip" <t>
/wait 4
/ma "Hysteric Barrage" <t>

Macro#5=Nuke 2
/ma "Sickle Slash" <t>
/wait 3
/ma "Dimensional Death" <t>

From here he should either be dead (in the same of my friend) or nearly dead in my case. You have a couple of choices here dependin on this remain HP. If he's really low, simply use Vorpal Blade to finish him. If you think he needs a bit more damage use head butt to buy yourself more time for death scissors or frenetic rip recast timers to reset. So far VOrpal blade has been all that's needed

Vorpal Blade=Fight over

**Below I will list the gear we used, and also how my fight scenario went**

Gear:
WEAPON: Musketeer Commanders Falchion (for the +Acc) 90% of your damage will be spell not weapon so it just doesn't matter alot.
HEAD: Wivre Mask best. Emporer/Empress will work due to +10 Evasion.
NECK: Chivalrous Chain. (If you can't get ahold of one I'd recommend +evasion but this is kind of a must have)
EARRING: +4 Evasion/+3 Evasion (dodge earring and can't remember the other)
BODY: AF piece. I don't care how you slice it, +15 blue magic skill beats anything out there for spell Accuracy and damage. Dont subsitute this.
HANDS: Light Gauntlets (My choice), Both Friends used AF hands. Both work fine.
LEGS: AF legs arent great but I have yet to find better.
RINGS: +Acc or +Str. I used 1 of each
BACK: +MP (my choice), or +Evasion either is fine
WAIST: Potent belt is best, Life belt +10Acc would work also.
BOOTS: AF boots for that awesome +10 Eva

My Fight:
Nymh-Frost Breath 272 Damage
-Melee 20 damage
Raubahn-Hits 1 shadow
-Hits 1 shadow
Nymh-Headbutt 93 damage
Raubahn-Hits 1 shadow
Nymh-Melee 14 damage
-Death Scissors 533 damage
-Frenetic Rip 220 (yuck)
Raubahn-Hits 1 shadow
-Hits 0 stoneskin
Nymh-Melee 26 damage
-Hysteric Barrage 360
Raubahn- Flatblade 116
Nymh- Stunned and missed sickle slash in macro
-No longer stunned
-Dimensional Death 259 damage
Raubahn-Hits 176 damage
Nymh-Melee 21 damage
-Vorpal Blade 175

Raubahn Defeated.

**I hope this helps, please practice this before using it since it is a complicated strategy and timing is so vital. GL my fellow Immortals.
