View Full Version : The most useless job ever

Attention fellow Bandits:

When you're confronting kitsch boneheaded attitudes from community, be it in party, or be it in your linkshell, or amongst your friends, please remember this.

THF is by no means a useless job.

Sure. We're going to hit for less than other jobs are going to, but when you look at how daggers are designed to do so, you can't help but admit that that's a given. Explain to those people who brag about their wonderfully awesome 2h weapons that you can basically hit for 3-4times more than their silly weaponskills can if they'd just show you their spinal columns.

Sure, we're going to get outrooted in most stances because of the commonly kitsch resultant job trait Treasure Hunter, which doesn't do anything if someone who doesn't have the trait manages to get the drop on the first kill. But don't be discouraged; They won't be able to do it twice. And if they do it twice, Challenge them thrice. And etc. Their 'luck' will soon run dry.

Sure, you're gonna get laughed at for hitting for 0 damage.
But you know, if you actually leveled up your marksmanship to it's capped level, you wouldn't have to worry about this crap? I mean, not only does it benefit you, but it benefits your PT as well. Use your status bolts, because WAR and DRK and RNG sure as heck aren't going to.

Sure, a 2h DD is going to get picked to a PT before you do.
Big deal. They need to feed their ego, obviously, so let them. How proud are they that think they can completely hold hate without your assistance. I mean, you can't blame them for compensating something they obviously lack. Learn humility and understand your place in the chain of mighty Vana'diel; Once the Blackmages, and the 2h DDs, and the Tanks realize that their PT flowed alot smoothly with just a mere SATA, sit back until they wipe and then move in to pilfer all their gil. If they don't, point out the nearby undead mobs that are looking foward to feasting on their wounds.

Sure, you're going to get outperformed.
But you already know why this is the case; You either need to beef up your gear and skills, or you need to slap your PT members with a halibut and let them know that you can't function under the kitsch conditions that they keep hashing you. Draw a diagram. Teach them what 'Directly Behind the Mob' Means. Get a timer for your mages so that they can concentrate on slowing down their nukes respectably as to not steal hate while you're trying to save their lives. Help your party to understand that you are an insurance policy to magic bursts. By any means necessary, let people know the reason as to what isn't working and what is working for you. Don't accept commonality by any means. Do not conform to the kitsch ways of other lost bandits who deem it okay to be gimp.

Sure, people are going to try to do your job for you.
But they can only do it every minute, whereas you will be able to do it quicker at that point. And If someone's going to do your job, let them know that if they ever expose their vertebrae to you that you will cause the mob to eat them, and show this similar respect to any mage that dares cross the path between you and the tank. Don't lose heart when you see people trying to do your job; take pride in the fact that they want to be more like you.

Sure, you won't get invited to missions, or BCNMs, or ENMs, or ISNMs, or Assaults, or etc.
But when you and your static pass up that mission that people tried to manaburn and failed, you can carve your initials in the burning circle with your dagger that 'lolthf was here'. Let people know that you would rather them think strategically and effectively tactical than to go through a process of nuking, dying, and raising to win a fight.

It would seem that whenever there is a high level of retardation in any circumstance, THF has been opted out as useless. The saga still continues.

>. > that seemed rather arrogant on the "holier-than-thou" level to me.

And any RNG worth their salt will have crossbow (if not all 3 types) handy at all times :3

Still, I /salute your /cheer efforts.

In meripos they never ever ever ever do. Ever. They don't even bring xbows-regular bows only.
In their defense-bolts don't proc on lots of ToAU mobs very often.

Thf has kinda lost their niche in this day and age where nobody gives a crap about enmity control, but they still do good damage on puks, imps and colibri due to their piercing weakness, right?

Puks, imps and colibri are all highly resistant to status bolt effects. Puks, Imps and Colibri are core EXP mobs. If we were talking trolls or Mamool exclusively, that would be different, but the mobs people want to fight are far too resistant for status bolts to matter.

No THF I know of burns as much ammo as a RNG, maybe more than COR at merit level, maybe K Club RNG, but all other RNG? Not a chance, not in any other situation does THF burn more ammo than RNG. Not even soloing.

And just to add, bolts are cheap, spending on bolts is nothing special. RNG has arrows, bolts and bullets to consider. THF can use some of the ranged weapons, but there's no point for THF to use much other than crossbow. Boomerang THFs can rot, they suck.

i have o-bow and s-bow on me whenever im on as rng. darksteel/holy/acid/bloody bolts and kabura/demons for ammo.

acids procuring can be iffy. if i spend 75% of the mobs life try to get it to proc i tend to switch away from o-bow because its pointless. however, if we have mobs that allow acids and holy bolts to proc easily, you can bet im using o-bow for sure.

in addition, bringing o-bow (or any xbow for that matter) out for hnm is silly. if its silly for rng, its even more silly for thf to try and make them proc. please, dont give me the faust example again either.

right. for merits, stuff doenst live long enough for enmity control do even play a factor. blame weak mobs and tp burns for that.

and yes, flying mobs take extra dmg from piercing attacks.

So why the sudden angst?

because weaponskill dmg thfs prided themselves on are being eclipsed by your mediocre drg and drks now due to the 2h update.

Thf could do decent DoT-quite easy to pull hate with just regular attacks-against colibris it's like spamming ~90 damage, vs other mobs less-but not horrible.

Three times this weekend I joined a party only to be told to change jobs as soon as I got to the party. Once to a War, twice to a Nin every though I don't have nin unlocked yet.

My answer: Um, no...I'm playing a thief. Caused me to be dumped twice and once has three players leave the team...though the rebuilt team got some great experience. I have a whm subjob (cry me a river) so I would heal till out then jump in and deal SA to the monster till dead.

It worked pretty well.

Still it's very annoying.

There are numerous topics discussing the benefits of /WAR and /NIN as subjobs on these forums and all over the rest of the internet. Maybe you should read a few of them. /WHM isn't very useful to a party. If you want to sub WHM when you're on your own, that's your perogative. But if you expect to get invites, then you have to make yourself useful to parties.

Well they're doing that cause as a thf, you're invited to deal dmg, not heal. As such, subbing War or better yet, Mnk, would help you deal more dmg. That's not a bias against Thf, it's a bias against your choice in sub. They didn't want you to switch your main to War or Nin, just your sub.

My friend was setting up a merit party this weekend and invited me along. When I joined, he said to the rest of the party something along the lines of "hope you guys don't mind a thf, he's a friend" x.x

It is very possible they were asking you to change your sub job. What job were you subbing at the time?

Edit: How did I miss a whole second page of posts? /fail
