yarr what is this system message? DX
Try this again, having problems picking a server this being my first time playing the game.
Im looking for a generally high populated east coast server since my time is going to be limited with school and work this year, so if I am playing it will be mostly be between 3pm-9pm
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance

There aren't really any East Coast Servers in FFXI. At least, I don't think there are.

Wut? D=
Surely their are a few people playing from along the Virginia/North carolina/Florida areas?
Or all the servers based on japanese timezones/UK or somthing? =(
If thats true well..what would be a good high populated server for a noobie to start on?

All of the servers are a mix of Japanese, North American, European and other players from around the world. You're not going to find a high concentration of EST players on one server over another.
Any is good to start on. All servers are several years old now, so they are all pretty much the same.

Well blah..im back at square one now though =(
Is their anyone who is in the EST timezone that could share their server and their expirences with finding parties, etc at lower levels?
Also anyone here thats in a good LS willing to take a noobie in and show me the ropes?

Try Kujata. That's where the FFXIO LS is starting.

Well I would gladly allow you to join up with us, but except for weekends, even our East-Coasters (me included) are late nighters. We've got one or two EU folks but that's it. :(

Until recently, you didn't get a choice of server, you were assigned one ... so there shouldn't be any great server bias towards any particular timezone. If you know people, go where they are.

If you haven't picked a server yet, just come to Kujata. That's where most of us have been or transferred to, so there's a good number of people from this board around to help you. I myself am in Japan, and play in the afternoons here, so that puts me in the late night category in the States, but there's plenty of people around all the time to help.
As far as the actual locations of the servers, they're all in Japan, and are based on the 24-hour time cycle there, meaning the servers perform a soft reset (and tally Conquest) at midnight on Sunday night/Monday morning. All servers have a (roughly) even mix of Japanese, North American, and European Union players, and, if you don't like your server, after three months, you may apply for a server transfer, and choose a new one.
Kujata = win for pick of servers now FFXIO based ls and ill be happy to show you the ropes, Kujata server name Sevv. I am in the east coast.

I am from Hades, but yeah, go to Kujata. There's a good chance I'll be starting a totally new character there just for the fun of playing with my friends from here. Not gonna transfer because I like my friends here too much.

That's not what "soft reset" means. >_>;
It is true Japan Midnight is when when they perform a data update of sorts, and flag a lot of quest in progress as "enough time has passed, so you may proceed", however. (But, that's definitely not a "reset".)
