View Full Version : Random thoughts....

I logged in for a couple hours before work today to play w/ my second love in all of it's post update goodness...from what I've seen, I'm going to have a hard time supporting my BST in weapons/armor due to the rate that I'm going to lvl it. ....I might also add that that isn't a rant. ...all I could think about was finding something else to hit....and the faster the better. I am pleased....and I haven't even tried jugs yet, as I just hit lvl24 today.

The update got me thinking. Seeing as I've been playing the game for less than a year, and till now, haven't really been paying attention to SE's adjustments to various jobs(....I don't wanna hear it. I now know it was a dumb thing to do.), can we expect an influx of ppl joining the BST club? ...or are we still red-headed enough?

Still red-headed enough.

thats what I was also wondering.

I got my bst to 31 before i took my break from the game because of Rl issues. but when I return I will be seen as a "Bandwagon bst" lol.

As it has already been said though, people dont choose bst, bst chooses you even if there is a sudden influx of bst the job will still require hard work. Many will give up as bst isnt for everyone.

Still red-headed enough.

That's my hope. I'd hate to see an influx of BST's....I like my red-headed status.

i was thinking about bst but the fact that i never see them in a party kinda doesnt appeal to me. what role would they have in one?

I honestly think people won't just flood towards BST because of this change. For the most part, additional content, expanded mission listing AND changes to the 2hd mechanic will keep most people busy (and distracted) to not go flocking to change their jobs to BST.

Of course ... I seriously am out of touch with this community after a year long hiatus and will probably end up with my foot in my mouth after posting this commentary. Argh.

...I hadn't thought of that. Those are good points. For me, BST is an experiment in what I can get done by myself in the game. It seems like a good job to lvl that I can take to 75...and help out some of my LS mates w/ stuff. (My LS is made up of almost entirely mages. Some of us have SJ's that are at 37....like /nin and what not....but yeah, mages....)

i have allways played on and off on bst, it was 20 before this update, but i did drop it because of it being such a chore i wasnt ready to put up with, i like it better now so i got back to it

"bandwagon bst" fears? like there werent enough topics to argue about on FFXI, who the hell cares honestly, i am one of those bandwagon bsts, if you dont like it, get out of the way, if youre ok with it, great.

you should do the same if that worries you

The only way people would join a BST bandwagon is if they only level BST in parties. Soloing as BST, even after this change, is a slow grind. That just doesn't appeal to bandwagon players.

Even though this update makes it easier for BST to manage a native pet in a traditional exp party, it will still take a lot of work to do more than lock-on to the mob and auto-attack.

If you want to jump onto a DD bandwagon, SAM or DRG makes more sense. It's so much easier to just DD as one of those jobs than it is having to go out and find a pet, make sure you keep it alive and keep it from turning on you at the worst possible moment.

I think the bandwagon BST fears are just about as unfounded as the COR bandwagon ones. I've noted an upsurge in each class for JP peak hours, but not NA peak hours.

Bandwagon bst?
Today I was lvling war as a sub for bst when someone asked me what my main job is. I told them bst and the only responce was "Bst can't be a main." That actually was the start and finnish of the job talk in a 3 hours party.
I'm not huge on some of the changes made but I'm happy they were made. We probobly wont see a bandwagon and I am doubtful we will even see more invites. Bst is just too hard a life for most people and as said, grips and the 2handed weapons are far more interesting to most people right now.

BST can't be main?

*cough*...BS....*cough*

I think I would have had plenty to say about that.....then again, I seem to have plenty to say about lots of stuff. I generally only keep my mouth shut if I think I'm going to get myself into too much trouble.

Ha. I've had parties like that.

"call out ur dragon"
"It's dead, that third bomb toss killed it."

Usually, half the people in an exp pt have plenty to say about anything and everything, and they're far more interested in expressing their own opinion rather than listening to anyone else's. So it's best to do as you said, and leave them in their ignorance.

Ha. I've had parties like that.

Oh, retards.

back in the two hour days (real men don't abuse their wynabs), I had that guy in a Gustav party.

*pulls flies and goblins, bomb tosses and dark spheres galore*
Dude: Hey, wherz ur dragon?
Feba: it died. I don't have any time to rest between pulls
Dude: <call2> PULLING <t>
Dude: <call2> PULLING <t>
Dude: <call2> PULLING Goblin Something
Feba: *bitches about idiot pullers that use the loud calls*
Dude: o well at least i'm not a idiot drg that can't keep his wyvern alive.

*dude pulls, party leader feba kicks and invites the person that he messaged ten minutes ago, watches idiot puller die. Laughs*

In a party setting, I generally don't have anything to say. There are different play styles...and pt's should be able to accept that and just keep rolling. The best of everything doesn't always come, lol. Just do the best you can w/ what you have....within reason, of course. (Funny how that last part is subject to personal interpretation....) (paragraph limited to my whm exp of lvl 56. Can't speak about pt dynamics after that.)

I've only had to voice my concern once during an exp pt....and that was to a RNG, who was pulling beetles faster than I could recover decently enough w/ an RDM in the pt. The tank was armored a bit light, and between me and the RDM, it was all we could do to keep pt members hasted, and keep the tank standing. On average, I was only able to get a tick or two in for down time. If it wasn't for the RDM's convert, the tank would have fallen on several occasions. No MP? ....let's pull anyway. That's a sure recipe for a pt wipe. ...matter of factly, that's when I did say something to the puller. Basically, a couple of pt members would request recovery time...and the puller didn't cooperate. The tank dutifully did his best to hold hate and survive. (PLD tank). Between 2 mages and the tank, we kept the tank alive till the mob was around 5% left. The DD's finished it off... The excuse was one that I've seen all too many times. ...not going to settle for "substandard" exp. Personally, I thought that was crap. That line makes me mad. Every time I hear that line, I'm going to ask "x" player if "y" player should have to settle for less exp due to death because "z" player hasn't recovered adequately. It's only my personal opinion here, but (sorry, I'm venting...lol) pt's are a co-op. {rant} Over pulling is just as bad as an improper SJ. {/rant}

...hell, I've just spent my last two pennies....
