View Full Version : Will there ever be "Mastery" of other defensive skills?

Well PLDs have gotten Shield Mastery, which is really nice. I appreciate it alot, but I was wonder if others jobs that have A ranked in defensive abilities like Parrying and Guard would ever get a Parrying Mastery or Guarding Mastery. As in . ..

SAMs, NINs, THFs, and CORs would get Parrying Mastery
MNKs would get Guarding Mastery

Just a thought

Well, being a MNK I love the idea of Guard Mastery, but I don't see it happening.

As for Parrying Mastery, I don't think that will happen either. While the boost for SAM THF and COR really aren't bad, NINs with even more chance to parry and keep shadows up longer seems to detract from SE's initial intentions of giving PLD Shield Mastery, which was to balance the two primary tanks (NIN and PLD).

Also, PLD has A+ in Shield, all the rest of those jobs (except COR) are A- in the appropriate skill, so that could be seen as "room for improvement" and therefore they aren't true masters of parrying/guarding. And really there'd be no reason to give COR Parrying Mastery that I can think of.

Edit: If anything I'd just love to see SE give a passive raise to the proc rate of Parry/Guard, not so much that it would be Parry/Guard Mastery, just make them proc more in general.

it doesn't necessarily have to be the same as shield mastery either, though a small TP bonus would be nice for the occasional guard I throw up when I get too much hate. Maybe adjust the procrate so that it actually happens more than once every 2 days.

Fyi Shield Mastery doesn't really help you block more. It just gives bonus TP and prevents interrupts on shield blocked hits.

I'd be happy if SE simply tweaked the system so Guard would proc more.

Shield Mastery TP bonus is kinda sorta ok, but the interruption thing didn't make any difference on my tanking,

Because of my RDM-soloing trainning for spell timing.™ I rarely get interrupted (Shield blocking or not), but I can see it making some sort of difference for players without much timing experience.

And since Parry already prevents interruptions I doubt they would add the TP bonus alone, same with Guard since jobs with the trait don't cast anything anyway.

I tend to agree that there is no point to making a Parrying or Guarding Mastery. Shield Mastery has been a small boon to PLDs, though, making them not fall quite as far behind in TP gains due to casting. -- Pteryx

Maybe:

Parry Mastery (SAM): On a successful Parry, a 10% chance of Counter.

Guard Mastery (MNK): On a successful Guard, a 10% chance of reducing enemy's current TP by 50%.

Counter Mastery (MNK): On a successful Counter, gain TP from the counter attack.

Evasion Mastery (THF): On an evaded attack, +10% crit chance on next attack.
