My friend gave me a buddy pass to play with him. I used to play a couple years ago, and decided to take the plunge once again. I am level 10 Galka WHM at the moment.
I got an invite to head to Valkurm Dunes to party. So I accept, and head from Windurst to Mhaura inlike a half hour. What do I find out when I get there? 100g for the boat ride, but I need the expansion to even go to the dunes!
This game must have had total crap for content when originally released. Looks like I need to buy the full version sooner than I thought. What a waste of time.
Worst part is, I paid 100g for a boat ride I couldn't even take. :P

Hmm...There are two boats that leave from that dock. One for Aht Urghan and one for Selbina.
The NPC on the dock will tell you which one is coming next, just confirm that you get on the boat that is going to Selbina.

There are two boats in Mhaura, one heading to Whitegate which is an expansion area and the other to Selbina, which is not an expansion area. You shouldn't need the expansion to travel to Selbina, and you shouldn't seek for invites in Windurst.

Ah, thanks guys. Didn't know about anything in Aht Urghan or whatever expansion. Thought it was still just the one boat.
And I originally just wanted a group for tahrongi canyon

You're going to be waiting a long, long, long time.
Nobody has ever really grouped in Tahrongi canyon, except with friends... the action was always in Shakrami, but all that's there now is soloerrs.

Level BLU. Eventually you'll have to go back and kill Dhalmels again.

I did a few small groups in Konschtat (which is basically the same level mobs as Tahrongi) early on in my FFXI career. With signet exp bonus for small groups, there's even more reason to do that at some point between level 1 and level 10.
In before memories of Garliage Trains.
What are you talking about? Garlaige and CN trains were Da Bomb. I practically begged PT leaders/members to exp in those places just to get caught in the thrill of HNMLS wars in GC and the general nubness of CN.
Some of my more memorable times in FFXI especially involved that cuddly scorpion named Serket break dancing on the corpse near the zone exit.
Best train ever was a BST that kill-stole our helm beetle, got an add and lost his crawler pet and bothered to zone out (he actually made it) and along the way back, the train took out every single party that didn't pay attention to what was going on (which was a lot because CN was sooo crowded in those days)

Here's to zoning in dead, and death at the zone lines...
/cheers
Here's to watching a few brave high levels (as in, level sixties) aggro the train and pull it back into the deungeon, since they couldn't kill them.
And here's to Jammer Leech trains!

Oh Boy. Jammer Leeches.
I remember our THF got "lost" on the way back from a pull when we were pting in the Secret Room. (when my RDM was 43, so a LOOOOOOOOONG time ago).
We told him to zone, hell, he had Strider Boots, so we thought he was uber.
Little did we realize that EVERYTHING in CN followed him, and there was a lot of Death.
Oh.
And who could forget zoning in on such a train and getting gang raped at the Zone Line?

A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile.

When I did mission 5-2 to kill the Shadow Lord I aggro'd one of the demons before I got on the teleporter, the ensuing train was 50+ angry demons.
A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile.
And now I'm remembering that time I was bored as shit and started writing lyrics for 'Rolanberry Fields Forever'

If a WHM wants to party in Mindartia, people will follow. Have some presence and make your own party, and you can exp fine in Tahrongi, Maze of Shakhrami, and Buburimu Penisula... all of which are superior to dunes below level 18(since Buburimu and Valkurm have the same goblins and the same pugils, it's about equal... then again, you don't have to be in either at that level).

CN trains...
No, better.
One time I trained like 5 malboro/oochu things in to the zone at crawler's nest, sure that I could lose them at the zoneline. At first I didn't really notice that there were like 40 people waiting there...
I zoned in and got raped by a train of crawlers that had been dragged there.
About ten seconds later, people started spawning ontop of my dead body to get away from my ochu train. Some of them made it back out before raping.
ALL of them sent me angry /tells.
How could I have known there was a train already on the OTHER side of the CN/rolanberry zone!?!?

Bekause back then, training the entire first floor or lower was cool.
I even saw a Crawler Hunter.
Don't ask why. :(

I think I did the same thing in west altep/kuftal tunnel, with manticores on the outside and someone's haunt on the inside.

Id probably miss them if I played back then. But I didnt, so I dont xD
I miss the Zone Train too.
I used to get bored, get geared up as my HL job at the time (OMGWTFLv.50), and just clean house. Felt good to run in and be a hero to so many Lv.30 people, and all I wanted was something to do because I was bored.
Still remember the days of riding the ferry from Mhaura to Selbina and having Pirates attack. One day a RDM75 & a DRK75 completely wrecked shop on the boat. Killing every pirate that dare spawn on deck. All the Lv.15 people were cooped up in the wheel house watching as these two just went buck-nutty and demolished everything; I wanted to be both of these players. Now that I am, nobody ever rides the damn boat. ><

I remember once I was with my BST friend and we cleared the entrance to CN of the beetles, crawlers and fungus. Oh and that one scorpion. LOL ... I think if they could, they would've trained Simurgh through there too (Of course, different zones, but still... the idea left a tingling sensation of morbid humor)

I remember when I was really low in level on my first toon ever in FFXI and I gave my BLM friend the slip and he got dropped by Sea Horror with just a casual slap. I still laugh about that to this day...

Man I was so in Awe of AF (esp RDM) then as I got closer to getting my AF it was mage's in Errants and Wise. I remember being below deck when a lone BST took out the Sea Horror.
I so wanted to be able to wow some new players when I got up there. Now I'm sad.
I also really wish I could remember the names of the two who helped me get my Magicked Skull. It was a 75PLD and 75WHM, or 2 75 PLD's. One of their names started with an S.

The person that helped me get my Skull was a 46PLD at the time, very well known on Bahamut, but yet in more one occasion they have been complete assholes when in 2competeing" parties ; ;

Yeah people start getting funky once you take a spot they think is THEIRS
Speaking of which, Campsitarus (http://campsitarus.blogspot.com/) is a good site to go to. It's a welcome addition to the normal exp grinds. A good chunk are unorthodox in that you'll need some pt members who are competent enough or self-sustainable enough to get there without PT headaches, but they are great camps, and have some good follow-up comments.

Hell I gave up on building parties a long damn time ago.
What I love is people want to be the 50th merit pt in caedevera mire but won't go to mount zhaylom when there's only 15 people in the whole zone and none are 70+.

I can actually get lots of people to go with me to those places. I took a 30-something party to Eldieme, another party to Zi'tah, and places all over. I don't ask them, I tell them. And then if they're not interested, I grab someone else. >_> I'm not up for slow boring exp against another party, I want somewhat of a new experience and good exp, and if people follow me, they get that. :D
